J.C. Higgins was the brand name for sporting goods from Sears & Roebuck in the 1950s and 1960s. Sears did not manufacture guns, most of theirs at the time were made for them by High Standard or Stevens. I think your bolt action shotgun is really a High Standard.

Some say J.C. Higgins was the Sears corporate manager of sporting goods. Some say the name was just made up to sound "sporty."

Old J C was an actual member the Sears board. There should be a model number on your shotgun, that can be used for cross reference. The odds are it's a Mossberg.

J. C. Higgisn was teh trtade name used by Sears. THere was onec a J Higgins who was an employee but I don't believe he was ever on the board.

Most bolt action shotguns after WW II through the early 1960's were made by High Standard and the reference number will start 583.--. High Stadanrd made the bolt action models 10, 11 and 14 for Sears.
