I recently acquired a 581 and would like to put a scope on it, but I have no idea what kind of mount I would use to do so. If anyone has any idea how to do this please let me know, and if you have a scope/mount that you are willing to sell I would also be interested.

You can get the mounts at WalMart. Just buy 'tip-off' rings. These are pretty standard for 22's and pellet rifles. In fact, most of the rings will say this. They have a clamp that clamps onto a narrow set of grooves on the top of the gun. Good luck.

You might want to review this (http://rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=28254) link. I was curious about the varied choices available as mounts, too.

In case you aren't already aware (I wasn't), the screw in the DTM rings in the picture mates up with the slot in the mount and is then really, solidly mounted. You don't need to stress much on the solidity or the price. I think the mount will likely run you $5, and the rings less than $20 (some around $10). For that price, if and when you find them ugly (I'm unaware of anyone finding them non-functional), you'll have a little more experience in knowing what you like. You won't be out much money by changing, anyway. Buy the package that specifies your rifle. Know the diameter of your scope objective when you go, so that you can get the right height rings for it; the package will specify which height you need. Follow the directions on the package for installing them, even when they don't make sense immediately; there's usually a reason for it that they haven't explained. Use Blue LocTite (it's semi-permanent). Ask questions if you get stuck.

Just get regular ".22 or airgun" rings meant for dovetailed receivers.

I had a LH 581 back in the 1980s. VERY accurate rifle with a trigger that broke like a glass rod. I regret trading it off. It's worth putting a good scope on that rifle.

Thanks for your help everyone, I got a BSA 4x32 for now, fits like a charm. I might upgrade to a little nicer scope later on, but for now this'll work. Now I get to go site in and shoot around:D
