I just aquired a Smith and Wesson .38 special. The serial number is 297332 (stamped on the butt). Smith and Wesson on the left side of the bbl and "38 SW Special CTG" on the right. Anyone know how old this is?

in 2nd edition indicates this is probably a .38 special Hand Ejector M & P made between 1915 and 1942. That is...unless I read the book incorrectly and then someone else out there can correct my mistake.

More info is needed. Is it a 5-shot or 6-shot cylinder? J-frames had similar S/N's for a while.

Nine times out of 10 when someone asks "what is this S&W?" it turns out to be a Military & Police made between 1915 and 1942. You appear to be in the majority with this one.
That serial would be from very early 1920s.

This is a 6 shot, 4" bbl. This is not a 'J' frame as I know them (Its bigger). I do appreciate your replies!
