100 hours hunting the rut in Iowa...

Haven't taken anything to this point, still waiting for the "Big One". Have caught glimpses of a 160 and a 180 class in the area.....makes skipping smaller bucks easier.

Worst hunting weather I've experienced for an Iowa rut hunt. High winds, snow flurries, mud, rain, more mud, and one day of partial sunshine. Corn hasn't been picked and the effort to get through the mud has been rough.

Have seen about 10-12 different P&Y bucks to date, dozens of smaller basket bucks, and 40-50 turkeys.

Here's some of what has kept me entertained for the last ten days....enjoy.

Note "club rear foot" on this buck....

Yep, several years ago, I was seriously considering moving to Iowa. Your photos reminded me of exactly why I was willing to move. :D

Awesome pictures...10-12 P&Y bucks seen...how much land do you hunt on there? And what can I do to duplicate your successes in central KY?!?

We hunt less than 10 acres of wooded ground, but it's attached to several miles that run along a river. Main reason we have a good selection of bucks is gun season doesn't start till after the rut. Genetics and good food source help.

where in Iowa are you??

I haven't hunted there, but my company is headquartered there (and was actually talking to my employer about changing my residence to iowa for tax reasons and to make it easier to hunt).

I wouldn't be passing up any of those bucks, myself. I'd be putting their head on my wall.

I like the guy with the split brows. When he is running towards you it looks like he has 5" bases. Very nice pictures and thanks for sharing.

Top reason why I love Iowa. We grow monster whitetails.
