I am thinking about ordering one in a 4" barrel for walking in the woods or more realistic the streets here in small backwater town I live in where if I wanted to deer hunt I could do that w/o leaving the yard, same goes for tree rats, 'coons, fox and assorted stray/feral cats and dogs.

I already have a beauty of a S&W M48 22 Magnum with optional 22LR cylinder, but it is larger and heavier then I want to carry. Also the M48 is getting kind of old and is a classic that I would hate to damage or lose.

Anyway anyone have much experience with the Taurus 22 Magnums? Are they reliable like my S&W's or is the old saying of you get what you pay for more in line with these guns?

Before the Taurus bashers get here I will give this a try. I do have experience with 1 of the 941's and three of the 94's .

I bought mine for plinking and varmit control. I have no complaints on the guns ,and they are working just fine. They are not slick & smooth DA revolvers with light DA function. They are fine for SA use but the trigger pulls are rather stiff in DA. Some complain of the DA also being rough , but since I don't bother with DA shooting, that would not prevent me from owning one. Mine are not that bad in DA - just that they have a stiff pull.

You will not be able to lighten the DA pull by much, as you can not get reliable primer strikes if you do not maintain the stock hammer spring strength. A little can be gained by going to a reduced trigger return spring. (both in SA & DA function) Mine are nice in SA trigger pull & that is what I use. The advantage of the swing out cylinder for loading is why I purchased mine over a single action gun .

I would not go below the 4 inch barrel on the magnum ,as muzzle blast will be bothersome with the shorter barrel versions.

Would I buy another one ? Absolutely
