Gunshop in the parent's home town has a decent condition, not great, MAS 36 for $125.
Any thoughts?

I'd judge it from the bore and whether the numbers match. If the crown was really good I might go for it, at least up here where prices are inflated. The big drawback for these is they're not terrible sought after by collectors and ammo isn't always easy to find. Some is still made, though. Comes in a box with a little French soldier on the outside.

Numric/Gun Parts Corporation was selling a whole passel of NRA Fair/Good Mas 36's for $36 plus shipping a while back.

If they still have the special, it may not be listed, It wasn't when I ordered. You may just have to call the operator and order it.
The one I got was in pretty decent shape, the wood had tons of scratches and small dings, but was otherwise intact, and the metal was about 80-90% finish.
I would only pay over $100 for a MAS 36 that was arsenal new, perhaps arsenal refurbished at worst, IMO.

The bore should be pristine. After all, the MAS was never fired, and only dropped once.

NAW, that's just not true.... A german may have unintentionally fire'd one while trying to figure out where the Saftey was located, and/or trying to detach the white flag!:D

A few were fired. While the French fell over themselves trying to surrender to the Germans, they did manage to put up a fight against their former Allies in North Africa. :)
I purchased my MAS 36/51 for $90. It's about 90%. Just a few dings on the wood.

I bought mine arsenal reconditioned looking and shooting like a new rifle in '99 when SOG had a boatload of them for a grand total of $79 tax, tag, title and FFL fee!:D

Picked one up for 80 dollars in excellent condition. Bore was clean and the darn thing looked brand spanking new. It took a while to find the ammo and get the reloading dies. It is an okay shooter. Nothing to write home about. It is a strange little rifle. I prefer the Enfield or the Mauser any day!
