remington 7600 questions.

I've recently been given a remington 7600 in 30-06 that has a bit of rust inside the muzzle. I imagine that the rust probably goes the length of the barrel, and the gun is still operable, but the accuracy has gotta be horrible. I've got a rifle in 270 winchester already, so i don't really need anything in 30-06 or smaller. Is it possible to turn that remington 7600 into a .35 remington; and if so what would be a rough estimate on the cost to do it.
Thanks

Not really.
The 35 Rem's case-head size is .460" to the 30-06's .473".
So, the bolt & magazine is not going to work.
Then, the barrel already has a longer 30-06 chamber, so it couldn't simply be re-bored to .35 cal & re-chambered to .35 Rem.
It could be re-bored to .35 cal. and re-chambered to .35 Whelen however.
Everything is the same as the 30-06 except the size of the bullets it shoots.
Anyhow, a little rust in the bore is not a deal killer.
It is probably only going to be cosmetic and won't effect how it shoots.
I'd suggest you clean it real good with JB Bore-Paste and see. You might be perfectly happy with it.
In the event you are not, sell it or trade it for something you like better. It will probably be cheaper in the grand scheme of things.

correction to that sorry. I was wondering if the 35 whelen would fit by just changing the barrel out.
