It never works for me. No big deal...just wondering if it works for anyone else.

It works for me. Mostly. It doesn't always work right, I think it's because it goes by the time you were last on the forum, not the last post you read.
If it doesn't work for you at all it's probably a cookie thing.

It pretty much just takes me to the end of the thread everytime...regardless of where I was previously.

If it doesn't work, chances are that your cookies are broken.
Every time you visit a threat, thr sends your browser a new threadview cookie containing 1) the thread number and 2) the date.
When you click on the "go to last viewed post" button, thr reads the cookie, finds out if you've visited the thread before, and if you have it goes to the first post made after the date stored in the cookie.
If it doesn't work, either your browser isn't sending thr the cookie, or it never accepted the cookie when you viewed the thread before, or somehow the data in your cookie was broken between receiving it and re-sending it.
As convenient as it might be to explain away things like this, vBulletin doesn't have a blacklist, the people on which it targets by deleting cookies, subscribing to every thread on the board, and otherwise making our lives miserable. :)
You can even test this. Before visiting a thread that you've previously viewed, go look at your cookies, find the bbthreadview one from www.thehighroad.org, and go through it until you see the threadid from the thread in question. The next value (the cookie format is consecutive pairs or something similar) will be the datestamp for your last reading of that thread. Go to http://www.thehighroad.org/timestamp.php (or convert it yourself) to get the last visit date. Then click on the "go to last read post" button for the thread.
If you have a valid data pair for that thread in the cookie, if it's a reasonable-looking date, and if you don't get to the first post after that date by clicking on the link, post the relevant info and I'll look into it.

Thanks tyme! That's a nice hypothesis...but I really think my computer is just possessed. Possessed by demons. Always has been, always will be.

Demons are judeo-christian and are evil. Daemons/daimons are from greek mythology, are merely spirits, and are not necessarily evil (eudaemons vs cacodaemons). Cacodaemon might be a better fit, but I don't think demon is off-mark. :p
