SOUTH HAVEN — A hunter’s shot that missed its mark traveled three-quarters of a mile and broke a Lynden Township home’s window just before noon Saturday.

According to the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office, Brent Michael Lang, 29, of Redwood Falls was hunting deer with a companion Saturday when he fired upward at a doe running along the crest of a hill.

He missed the deer, but the 12-gauge slug hit a window at 306-149th St., breaking the outer pane of glass.

Theresa Ann Weis, 33, was inside the home and David William Weis, 38, was on the roof putting up Christmas lights when the slug struck the house. Neither was injured.

Lang and Curtis Frederick Olson, 62, of Ham Lake were found in the area. Deputies and DNR Office Brian Meis told the hunters to check their hunting surroundings completely. Lang will pay for the damage to the window, the sheriff’s office said.

"fired upward at a doe running along the crest of a hill" I find 3 problems with this statement. Hunting 101-

when he fired upward at a doe running along the crest of a hill.

No amount of googling will stop this guy from being an unethical idiot. For those of you who say that it's not unethical to shoot at a running deer, because YOU do it and YOU make hits everytime, I say fine and dandy, I agree, but this guy obviously DIDN'T do it and CAN'T do it, so it's unethical for him to try it.

Not to mention "be sure of your target AND WHAT'S BEHIND IT". This is basic gun safety he's violating.

If he gets charged, he may have his hunting license revoked. Dont shoot upward.

He should have Googled "responsible firearm/shooting safety."

Google Earth... i wonder if theres a way to track prime hunting locations by state and have them appear on Google Earth (maybe base it to high percentages of success or number of animals killed).

Excuse me, but I find 4 things wrong--1) upward (which is OK if it weren't for)-- 4) crest of hill--2) doe--3) running, unless he is a very accomplished shot and it was within his "range", which it obviously wasn't. Sounds like he didn't get a ticket, but he should have. He should have had his hunting privilages revoked for life. I'm sure glad I don't have the misfortune of having to hunt in the East.
