What's the best setup/placement for a sling on an 870 with no mag extension?

I just bought a magazine cap with sling stud on the end. It's an OEM part for my (used) 870P. I suppose that's a good placement, but I'm wondering if anybody had any problems with mounting a sling there. For example, would the force of the sling strip the threads of the mag cap?

I haven't seen it happen so far... I'd think the swivel stud would strip out before the mag cap threads did. Most of the stress is going to be lateral and not linear, I'd hate to see the stressor that would cause that kind of problem 8^).

I have an 870 with a sling swivel ao tne mag cap and it works fine. Use it for hunting here in MI for 2 yrs now. One other way to put a sling on would be a sling with a loop that goes over the barrel, my daughter uses this type.

The mag cap swivel is probably best for what you need - I've used one for years with no issues.

Also available is one of these, available from Scattergun Technologies. While it would work with an original mag cap, I find it best suited for use with mag extensions.

The sling on my 870P (no extension) also attaches to the cap and it works great. No problems at all with everyday usage, hiking rough mountain trails.

I have had a sling swivel stud attached to the magazine cap of an 870 and an 1100 for 45 years. Even when falling down with the gun tangled between my legs while I tried to hold two labs intent on fighting apart, to the laughter of supposed friends, I have experienced zero problems.
