was a "Supplier" in WW2.The only "supplier" was Remington & Smith-Corona.
Rifles were crated & shipped direct from the factory on rail cars, to the government supply depots.

Sounds like grandpa wasn't a "supplier".

Sounds like he was just a thief undermining the war effort!

I concur. Pretty blatant if the story is true.

If they were stolen, and it sounds like there is a good chance of that, then I think the statute of limitations for that would be over, so I am not sure its even an issue at this point.

The OP isn't the good "Doc" with the Swiss interests perchance, is he?

I'd like some of that rifle action too, please! Put me down for one!

Naw...but for some weird reason, I do keep hearing in the back of my head "IT MUST BE MOUNTED ON A TRIPOD!" in an annoyed German accent. :)

The NY Mafia did have pretty good ties in the Cleveland area at that time I wouldn't be surprised a few cases of rifles etc didn't go missing. Considering there was a lot of the auto industry producing war materials in the "rust belt" i.e. Michigan, Ohio etc...The rumors may be true.

If I could get past the fact that they are almost certainly stolen (and I can't) AND if they really are consecutive-numbered, I would take out a loan if I had to and buy them all, especially if they are in the USGI shipping containers.
