What caliber is it?

One of the picks you had was a different gun.

Here's a link to what I presume is it's predecessor, the Model 1886. Interesting that it "was the first rifle designed to use smokeless gunpowder."

At any rate, the pics ought to give some idea of what the stock originally looked like.

There is not much collector interest and then only if in good shape, which that one obviously is not. The ammunition is not available (AFAIK) on the commercial market, though it was once made by Remington, and even surplus ammo (FMJ) is scarce.

Those guns sell pretty much as curios and to a few fglks who like to study the action. Value is around $100-150, retail, not what a dealer will pay for it.

it is not a Lebel! it is a butched French Berthier m1892rifle or carbine, original caliber 8x50R

Yes,it's a French Manlicher Berthier.

Chambered in 8mm Lebel, the first smokeless powder cartridge adopted as a military cartridge in the 1880's(1886 maybe?). The cartridge looks like a .30-30 that needs to go on a diet!

To be a repeater, the rifle/carbine would need either a 3 shot or 5 shot Berthier clip. That rifle being a 3 shot version, although the 5 shot clip would work(but with 3 shots).

France changed the specs on the cartridge a few times, and some stuff floating around called "ball N" may be too hot for an older gun not modified for the hotter Ball N ammo.

I have an 07/15 long rifle version thats 3 shot too. Mine is not marked for Ball N ammo. However I have forgotten just what the barrel stamping should be to denote the gun has been modified for the hotter round.
