I found and bought a Rem./Uberti revolving rifle today. The price was good, and I couldn't resist. There are few markings on this rifle. I checked it against the markings on my 1858 Rem./Uberti New Army. The markings are identical.
I checked the two R&D conversion cylinders in .45Colt that I have for the 1858 Rem. New Army, and they fit perfect. So, I guess that I have a Rem./Uberti revolving rifle.
I am in Florida for the winter and left my information on the Rem. new Army, in Ohio. Can anyone give me a good starting load for the Rem. New Army? Is the ball size .457? I have never fired the revolver using BP loading, only with the conversion cyl. in .45Colt. The revolving rifle that I just bought does:confused: not appear to have been fired, but I have to assume that any load that that could be used in the 1858 Rem. New Army, would be alright in the rifle also.
Thanks.

The Uberti website says their .44s take a .454 ball. If all you have are pure lead .457s they will work, but will be a bit more difficult to ram into the chambers.

Start with a load of about 25 grains of 3fg powder and see how she groups. Just keep yer mitts away from the front of the cylinder when you fire it. Bad things will happen to yer epidermis if ya don't.

Good luck and have fun.:D

Better yet wear a shooting glove made of good stiff leather on the fore arm end, in case this is a lead spitter.. No one knows unitll they try the gun.

Once you inspect the glove it is up to you as to how safe it is...

The more I look at this revolving Rem. rifle the more enthused I get with it. I would like to find out more about the history of this gun, how it was used, Did Remington actually make them, and who might have used them, how popular they were etc.
Have any of you folks owned and used one? Your opinions?
Thanks.
