What powder do you guys use/recommend with copper plated 158gr .357 caliber.

I am using Rainier slugs. Tried a lot of 50 with 13.6gr of 2400. Seemed to work OK, but the residue has me thinking the light crimp is not a good match for 2400.

Thinking something faster like maybe Bullseye? Also have Unique on tap. The crimping is my concern as I don't want to gouge into the plating.

What do you guys think?

24000 to Bullseye is a big jump in burn speed. What velocities are you looking for?

Universal Clays, Unique, AA #5, N340, True Blue are all good choices for midrange and midrange plus loads.

Clays, N310, N320, Bullseye, Red Dot, American Select etc are more in line for light target loads.

I taper crimp all my .357 light and midrange loads with plated bullets. Some plated bullets won't tolerate a heavy taper crimp and some will. The light target loads with fast powders don't really need a hard taper crimp, but the moderate speed powders seem to like a pretty firm crimp over a lighter one, if the bullet will tolerate it.

What gun are you shooting it out of? Leveraction or revolver? Barrel length?

7 grains of Unique, gives me about 1000-1030 fps from a 4" barrel, its accurate.

shooting with a gp100 revolver, 6 inch barrel.

moderate loads for steel plates from 15 to 50 yards.

figured on saving the 2400 for jacketed slugs.

my crimp die is a lee factory, which employs a roll crimp - not good for plated.

thinking i can get by with minimal crimp on the plated, with a faster burning powder.

Your Unique will do just fine for that. Bullseye might, depending on how fast you want to drive your slugs.

Herco is in between unique and 2400.

9.0 - 10.5 grains of hs-6 gives a great medium load with these
