well, at first i must say hello

if you do not know, i'm living in Russia, where gun laws are way more prohibitive than in US - for example, you cannot own any handguns at all; every long gun purchase must be approved beforehand by local police, and every gun bought must be registered with the same.

so far, i had no time to enter all those troubles with local police bureaucracy, and, most important, my wife was strongly against any guns at home.
But, when my eternal passion for firearms began to bring back some "fruits" (i work part-time as an editor and translator for the "Guns & Ammo - Russian edition" magazine), she began to be more positive on the subject.

Our editorial staff used to go to some indor range once a week, and burn some fodder and talk a little. Yesterday i took my wife along with me to that meeting, and guess what? She liked it :p

We started with a brand new Marlin 60 in .22LR, just imported here for the first time. We shall write a report for magazine, so we had through test for this little toy. Open sights, offhand accuracy at 50 meters was terrible, but with some Chinese 4X scope and from some form of rest, we managed to make some 4" inch groups. It must be noted that the trigger on that Marlin 60 was just awfull - even my wife noticed that. But despite the poor trigger, she shot the tinhg quite well.

Then we moved back to 100 meters and burned some Tula-made (Wolf) .223 ammo in a really nice CZ 527FS rifle, topped with 4-12X variable Meopta scope. Again, we shot from the rest, and my wife liked the CZ much more than Marlin, especially because this CZ had a properly tuned, smooth trigger set at about 3lbs. The good scope also helped alot. The most noticeable thing about that part of the shot was the huge fireball, produced by the Tula ammo - the S&B ammo makes almost no muzzle flash when fired from the same rifle. Accuracy was.. adequate, anyway, who will suspect a sub-MOA with steel-cased Wolf ammo? Still, some of us managed to make some nice sub-2MOA groups

what else can i say? just look at the photos below. Am I a happy man? Of cause, I am :p

Great!! It's always nice to convert a non shooter or anti-gunner to the shooting sports.

Hello to our new friends in Russia!

My wife and I were in Moscow and St Petersburg in 1995 and loved our trip. Really wonderful people.

If you are ever coming to the US, I'm sure you'll get LOTS of invitations to come shooting with your bretheren here on THR. (consider the invitation extended from me!)

Greetings, Max.

I know what you mean about the fireball from the Wolf .223 ammo. I shoot a lot of it in my SAR-3 (Romanian AK in .223). In my rifle, the fireball is about the size and shape of a 2-litre soda bottle. I have also shot S&B and noticed the reduced muzzle flash. And the S&B is significantly more accurate in my rifle.

I'll bet you enjoy your work with the Russian edition of Guns & Ammo. I am jealous!

Its too bad your Marlin Model 60 has such a bad trigger. I have an old one--from about 1980. Is trigger is very nice, and accuracy at 50 yards is about 1", using a rest and Remington Golden bullets. I don't know if those are avilable in Russia.

What kind of .22 ammo do you shoot?

a Russian wife that is :D

Glad you had fun. Maybe one day we will all be able to enjoy the same freedom no matter where we go. Life has gotten just too complicated.

Stay safe and have fun.

Chris
