My wife and I are planning to go to Knob Creek on 11 October, just as spectators this year. We have 'free' plane tickets, so we plan to fly down very early Saturday morning, spend the night in a motel, and then fly back Sunday afternoon.

To those who are familiar with the area: I have seen the list of motels at the Knob Creek website, but would like to hear your recommendations for motels as well as where 'not' to stay.

I'd invite anyone over to my parent's house in Prospect with plenty of rooms , if you let me shoot your machineguns and ammo.:D

I can't think of any good motels around Fort Knox area, and I would get a motel near 264 perimeter. I've had good experience with Motel 6 inn right off of 65/preston highway exit. right outside of 284/65. Only about 30-40 minutes away from Knob creek. Here is link:
Whatever you do stay away from $20-$25 roach motels.

For a good restaurant vist Harpers in Hurstborun area. Their wood oven baked pizzas are awesome. Try ‘SICILIAN’ PIZZA with
chicken, pepperoni, tomatoes, Kalamata olives, mozzarella, fontina

Good luck finding a room this late. If you can't find one any place else, try Lil' Biffs. It's a REALLY old motel but has a kind of funky ambiance... FGirst timeI stayed there the owners told me if they we wren't there when I arrived just pick up my key off the check-in desk and see them later.

Remember that it's also a fairly short commute. Assume you're flying into Standiford Field, so basically, just stop at the first place you see that looks halfway decent as you head south on 65...

Oh, and hey, if you can handle "roughing it" for a night, we can put you up in a tent at the campground. Simon Jester did that last year (flew in from CA). Just bring a coupla sleeping bags and an air mattress or something...

I'd STAY AWAY from Li'l Biff's :what: The train track is, I kid you not, about 30 feet behind the place, and it does carry traffic at all hours. There's a GREAT gunshop on the same road, opposite side. I'd stay just off I65 there at the Shepherdsville exit.

The problem is that the Sheperdsville motels (nice highway-side type...) are usually already reserved six months ahead of times - Folks will make their reservations for the fall in the spring.

And I'll do it again too!:D

Next time I'll have a tarp for under the tent(just in case)even though the weather was great.Won't make it this year, but next is a whole 'nuther ball game!

Ooops, Hutch, you're right. I forgot about the train tracks, heh, heh, heh. Also right about the gun shop. across the street.
