This has got to be a gag.
1) I can't see this thing even functioning.
2) Isn't there a little problem with legality here? I wasn't aware that large capacity magazines could be manufactured for sales to anything other than law enforcement or military.

It's made from preban mags, so it's legal. I've also seen it done, with limited success using Bakelite AK mags.

I have one of those 50 rounders, they are made of, off 3 FAL mags. A fellow named Hicap from the AK47 forums is selling it, check out the AK47 boards under the for sale section.
Bardwell, ATF letter: In your letter you inquire as to the legality of constructing a 50-round large capacity ammunition feeding device from two (2) 30-round large capacity ammunition feeding devices. You state in your letter that the two (2) 30-round large capacity ammunition feeding devices were actually manufactured prior to September 13, 1994... The modification of a large capacity ammunition feeding device, as outlined in your letter, which was actually made on or before the effective date of the act, would not be a violation of section 922(w).

It looks like a waste of 3 fal mags to me.
Now about the law...
If you can modify an M-14 magazine to work in an AR-10, why can't you melt down a plasitc AR-15 mag (or whatever) to make a new glock 20 Mag???
Why can't you make a double stack .45ACP mag from an FAL magazine? Just use only sheet metal from pre-ban mags.
Where is the line drawn???

I believe the ATF letter states, if you are making a hicap mag out of pre-ban mags then it would be okay. For clarification, I think you should send an email/letter to the folks at ATfe, tell them you want to make a hicap mag by melting it using pre-ban mags.
They usually reply to your email in 3-4 days or a couple weeks to a month for an official response in ATFe letterhead.

The line is that the ATF says that the modified magazine must still function in the gun that it was originally designed for.
That is why an M14 mag can go into an AR10, but you can't melt down a thermold mag and turn it into a Glock mag because it would no longer work in the AR.

Does it come with a footstool so you can keep the mag off the ground?
Seriously, what's the purpose for these type of gadgets on a real weapon?

I missed the commandment that said that all of your guns had to be serious all the time. :) Sometimes you do something not to be practical, but to be fun.
As for the value of FAL mags, you can buy used 20 rounders from Tapco right now for $3.99. I ordered a bunch more yesterday.

With a 7.62x51, a 20 round mag will get the job done. If not, keep a spare handy

I'm with Correia. I just thought it was rather humorous looking. A great novelty item in my opinion. :)
You have to admit.....it's pretty funnny.
Hicap does sell other mags besides this one. Nice workmanship if nothing else.

Hey now, that AK mag doesn't look too bad. For the lighter 7.62x39 round, I can see wanting a magazine of higher capacity. However, it just seems like a sin for the 7.62x51. Maybe we hold them to a higher standard (or maybe that AK mag just looks better).
