This is for those who currently own, or have owned a Taurus handgun. Choose whether you had a good gun or a bad gun.

This is not intended to start a fight, just simply see how many good and how many bad Taurus handguns there are.

I own two Taurus handguns and my son owns one. We have had ZERO problems.

What about you?

If there was an "OK" option I would take it. My 44 Mag has been reasonably reliable except for the cylinder mechanism coming loose.

It's not as nice as my S&W revolver.

I have to send mine into Taurus for repairs so I'll have some input on their customer service soon.

I have had a reliable PT92 for 11 years and love it still. I even prefer it to the Beretta 92.

Yeah can I pick "Mediocre Taurus"?

I have a PT-92 that has a D.A. trigger pull that is a miiiiiiiiiiiiilllllleeeeeeee long. I don't like 9MM (not the gun's fault but another strike) and it looks cheap.

But my wife likes it it's realatively reliable and it's accurate enough to do what she wants it to do ( be a basement BUG).

Like I said mediocre

I have three--PT-92, PT-25 and and brand new 24/7 OSS. Suffice it to say that I would highly recommend them.

I have several Taurus handguns manufactured between 1988 and 2005. The only problems I have had were:

1. The leaf on the adjustable rear sight broke (half of it broke off). I had carried it as a duty gun so I can guarantee you it got whacked at least several times over those 4-5 years. I stopped carrying it because agency policy got more restrictive.

2. The screw holding down the rear sight on my 669 worked loose and the rear sight flew off while I was blowing off magnums. Kind of my fault for not checking it. I had the same thing happen to a S&W and I had to pay for a new rear sight.

I sent the guns to Taurus in both cases, fixed, no questions, and no charge with turnaround time about two weeks. My PT1911 is my newest Taurus and have had none of the problems many report.

The trigger on Taurus revolvers is not as good as a Ruger or S&W but something I have no problem working with. The trigger on my PT 1911 is as good as any Colt out of the box and have seen no need for any trigger work.

Would I buy another? Certainly if they had something I feel I needed or wanted.

There are people whose opinions I trust that say all Taurus guns are junk. I still respect their opinion but disagree with them on Taurus.

My stainless model 441, 44 Special is every bit as fine as any Ruger I've owned over the years. 11 Rugers, good guns. the 441 is my most accurate revolver, with the exception of my Colt 22. I like Taurus.

After my Taurus Tracker 357 cracked the forcing cone, using standard 357 ammo, I won't buy another, its gonna be Ruger from now on. Also, my millenium pro has broken two disassembly pins, firing my moderate reloads, nothing hot. I'm sending them back to Taurus for repair, once that happens, the mil-pro is getting traded off for a SA-XD subcompact and the tracker is getting traded on a Ruger SP-101. I'm done with Taurus. The long term durability sucks, I've got 6000 rounds out of the mil-pro, about 5000 out of the tracker.

I've had a PT92 for over a decade and, like texaspunk, prefer it to the Beretta. At least they know that the safety doesn't belong on the slide. Have plenty of guns with much better triggers but it's mostly a plinker anyway. As far as the revolvers go, I've yet to meet one that I liked. I'm sure they're out there but I haven't met them yet. The ones I have met were only a couple of years old and all of them had problems with the internals that made operation very spotty.

One thing they all have in common is accuracy.

I plan on adding another to my collection when I get another stim' check. :D

I've only bought one (a Taurus Judge) and I took one shot with it and the barrel blew off the gun. So I had to vote 'Bad Taurus'.

HOWever, I am very much looking forward to the replacement Taurus (and I hope it comes in soon :cuss:), and I very much hope I can vote 'Good Taurus' after I get the chance to try it out for a few weeks.

I have a Mdl 85 snub that I have had for years. Many rounds through it, no problems with it. I had a PT92C that worked well, but I got hungry for a CZ75B and traded it at the local fun store. My experience has been good with Taurus.

Taurus Model 66 (357 mag) I liked the gun and the looks of it, shot well, before I got 100 rounds through it, it "broke". Cylinders had a timing problem. Took it to Gander Mountain, "traded" it for a Ruger GP100. Only had the thing 4 days...

Have thought about buying another, but haven't. Own several Rossi's, never have had ONE SINGLE PROBLEM with those.

I'm another one who needs to vote so-so Taurus. My PT145 and .357 Tracker have been great but my 85UL came out of the box with timing problems. While messing around with the gun on the night that I bought it, I also broke the firing pin by dry-firing it. Didn't take much to do that either. I dry fired it a few times over a 15 minute period and "snap" there it went. It is at the factory now.

I'm keeping an open mind and waitng for Taurus to make it right. I like the design and the feel of the gun much more than I do my S&W 638 so I hope the issues are resolved with no further problems.

Come on, some one convinced him he did not like them or he would have never owned 7.

He has never told what his problems were, he and several other "never buy a taurus" guys??? why??

I have owned quite a few and never had a problem with them. I have found them to be a great bargain for a very good firearm. I think some people think they are not as good, because they cost less. Not so, just a great deal.

I have a pt-100 and so far it is excellent. I also have a pt140 and although I love the look and feel of it, it is a dud. When I first got it, the magazine slid right out when I fired the first shot and also every subsequent shot. Needless to say I wouldn't dare trust my life with a firearm like that.

I've only owned three: a stainless 4" M94 .22 RF revolver, a PT100 .40 S&W and a 2" M85 .38 Spl. All proved to be completely reliable and shot at least as well as I'm capable of holding for with the ammo they prefer. I consider all of them to have been good values.

The only one I still have is the little M94 .22. No fault with either of the others, just went to folks who wanted them more than I did and were willing to pay what I asked for them.

We own a dozen, some for 30 years. None has failed, neither revolver nor semi-auto. One, an original Model 85CH was shot loose with a steady diet of +P and +P+ ammo. Over 3K of them. Sent it in, with an HONEST note about what happened. Six weeks later, a rebuilt and refinished pistol was at my address. Free.:D

I voted bad Taurus because of the the fact that it was bad for me, that is in the role for which I had intended to use it. That PT745 was to be a concealed carry pistol and I was inadvertently releasing the magazine with the thumb of my shooting hand during use. It was accurate and ran well.

Had a 2" M85 that did have to go back to Taurus because the barrel was turned in too far canting the sight & light DA strikes. It came back 100% & shot fine. Sold it to a good friend to fund another purchase.

I have a PT940 that is dead to nuts accurate & functions flawlessly.

I voted good. If I voted bad, I would have to say the same for S&W and also Ruger, as I have had to send handguns back to them for warranty work too.

Come on, some one convinced him he did not like them or he would have never owned 7.

I can't speak for that guy, but can give you some insight as to how this could possibly happen (I.E. similar experience myself with Taurus and Ruger). Those are the only brands I bought when I first started shooting, with no complaints. Mine were accurate and reliable, so what more could I ask for in a pistol? Well I found out after trying the likes of Sig, GLOCK, and H.K.

Now, I don't know that I'd buy another Taurus or Ruger. Not because I all of a sudden stopped liking them, but more so because I all of a sudden realized there were other measures of a pistol in addition to "is it reliability and is it accurate?" Athough those are obviously the two MOST important measures, they have been common denominators among all the brands I've tried so far. So for me, it's been other factors that set them apart (I.E. feel of trigger & controls, construction, materials, fit & finish, overall feel and quality etc).

I would have voted had there been an "in-between" option.

Is there some reason why people who haven't owned Taurus weapons just HAVE to post negative comments? Other than stinking up the poll?

People who are/were not Taurus owners shouldn't be ruining the poll (per title). That's even more a testament to all the satisfied Taurus owners- it's still overwhelmingly positive in spite of all the people just trying to make Taurus look bad.

B.T.W. you understood I wasn't speaking for that guy, right J.R. 47? I offered a possible alternative explanation, since I had a similiar experience (and mine wasn't someone convincing me). I would have felt bad if someone ridiculed me and assumed that was why. So maybe neither of us should speak for him. J.M.O.

I have the M4510 3" SS (a.k.a. The Judge) and no major problems. But out of the box when releasing the hammer with the trigger the hammer would jam along with the trigger. Also the trigger would sometimes not rotate the cylinder and actually jammed gun while loaded twice. This was all durning the very first 100 rounds.

After a very long cleaning and oiling everything works fine. I would not recommend firing them right out of the box.

Now that the bugs are worked out it seems to be a very nice gun. Thank god the first shot did not blow the barrel off, like the above post.

Hope this helps.

Many guns leave the factory with a preservative, and not a lubricant, in them. There's no way for the factory to be able to guarantee that they'll sell immediately, or be kept in a perfect environment. The preservative is oily, so it possesses some lubricating ability. However, it quickly gums up when the gun is fired prior to cleaning. My CZ-40P literally leaked this preservative from every seam when I bought it.:)

I've had two Taurus, mod. 85's bought separately years ago.
I had friends talk me into selling each of them, one of my 85's.
I also had that happen with a nice little Makarov.

Presently I have an old stainless Taurus mod. 450, 2" ported snub, in .45 Colt.
It's a good truck gun.I load it with Cowboy loads, for practice, or
Win. Silvertips for carry. It shoots every time.

I recently bought a little stainless Taurus mod. 94, 4", in .22lr.
It's upstairs in my desk. I've only shot a couple hundrted rounds through it.
I've had all good luck with my several Taurus revolvers.
I'd buy another, anytime.:)

I have had the pt92 for awhile and shot the snot out of it. Turkey day we were shooting and the locking block broke a ear off. Couple thousand rounds. Called Taurus and he said to send the old lock in and will send me a new one.

What can I say, the features and styling and price induced me to go, what's one more?

Come on, some one convinced him he did not like them or he would have never owned 7.

I am a slow learner at times. No one "convinced" me that my Taurus firearms had problems. They showed themselves soon enough in all their glory. Why did I own 7? Because Taurus often has chamberings or features that other manufacturers don't offer and I thought it would be a good choice.

He has never told what his problems were, he and several other "never buy a taurus" guys??? why??

Do a search on my postings and you will see differently. I am just tired of repeating the problems I have had with them.

Consider the sample size...not exactly scientific. Funny part about it is that since they're cheap then they're 'junk' when they don't work. If a pricey 1911 doesn't work it's because it needs "breaking in".

Only gun I've had fail was twice as expensive as my Taurus...and made by a big company that starts with "B". Only gun made by them that I own...100% failure rate. ;)

Salt,
Like your sample size is scientifically based!!

Twas the point of the winking smiley face...pointing out the humor in basing the quality level of a company that has been selling firearms in the US under various owners since 1968 on a sample of ~200 guns seems a little ludicrous, just it would be ludicrous for me to never buy another Beretta based on my experience with their product. (At least one stovepipe in every magazine, two springs broke inside of the gun, one with just under 500 rounds through it.) I didn't like that particular gun, but if I could afford another Beretta, you'd better believe I'd give it a shot (pun intended).

No harm intended, I'm just saying I like to try things for myself...others may like to base their decisions on what folks on the interweb think. To each their own.

Sample size is exactly what we're dealing with when a person tells us that they've bought seven Taurus guns, and that all of them had problems. To listen to these people, they state that you cannot buy a Taurus without problems. Yet, their opinion, masquerading often as fact, is that the Brand is bad.

The simple fact that there ARE so many Taurus weapons in service with owners in America today should give lie to the claims of terrible performance. However, the size of any sample that doesn't agree with them is denigrated, they KNOW, and that's ALL that matters. We don't need any stinking statistics, or numbers. Why ruin a great rant with the truth?

I had a .17HMR Snubnose Taurus wheel gun. It held 8 rounds. After firing all eight rounds, 2 shells would be normal looking, 5 would be deformed, and 1 would be cracked. I tried CCI, Winchester, Remington, and Hornady.

What a horrible gun. And the customer service where I bought it, horrible as well. He wouldn't take care of it or offer to give me my money back. :cuss: At best, he offered me 2/3 the cost of the gun. :fire: I took the offer and told him that I won't be doing business with him anymore if this is how he treats his customers. :neener:

JR47 (and others) what is your point? You disagree with how the poll is going so you dismiss it? What would you say if it had turned out, say, 99% good? Would it have been a better statistical sample just because it told you what you wanted to hear? (that's called the "selection bias".)

All the poll says is that 18% of Taurus owners, out of about 220 so far, have been unhappy with them. But admittedly, it's not a random sample either, and no verification that the voters actually do own a Taurus. (Kind of sounds like just about all Internet polls.)

I have no skin in this game, I'm just a Taurus owner who voted one time ;)

Well, I voted 'Bad Taurus' earlier, because I blew the barrel off a brand new Judge with the first shot. Today I got it back from the dealer and it works fine. Also, the dealer said Taurus gave him the best customer service on my repair that he's ever seen in over 20 years of owning a gun shop.

And I shot ten rounds of shot shells and ten rounds of long Colt .45 through it today and all is well.

So, although I can't vote again, I have to say I'm leaning towards 'Good Taurus' now, although time will tell.

I have a PT1911. No complaints whatsoever. Put a little under three thousand rounds through it since May and never had a hiccup except for the left grip loosening occasionally which a little loctite took care of as soon as I quit procrastinating.

Would I buy another Taurus? Maybe. I am looking for a decent small 38 revolver. I'd buy a Taurus at the right price, but I think I prefer the Smith & Wessons.

taurus PT111 milpro,

"no repairs, NO problems!
accurate, reliable is an understatement.
its now an extention of my body, and Ive become quite good at pointshooting with it, double taps, multiple targets etc..

it handles great.
its my primary pistol."

Ditto! I stake my life on it every day.

I've had (sold to replace with 3rd gen guns) 3 2nd gen MilPros (PT111, PT140, PT145) that worked as expected. I've had (sold to buy a Kimber) 1 PT1911 it also worked as expected. I now have 3 MilPro (PT111, PT140, PT145) 3rd generation guns. They are my carry guns and they haven't given me any reason to doubt their reliablity.

My experience with Taurus guns has been 100% positive.

I have owned one good one (44 Spl, 3" M-441 IIRC) but will not play the "Taurus Lottery" again.

Good Taurus.

I don't even know the model but I had a lucky day at the casino one day and went to a pawn shop and bought a pretty rough looking little hammerless .38 by Taurus for $160. Has worked great for years and is reasonably accurate. My sister keeps it at her place now. Her neighborhood got a little rough with the economy and all.

Good Taurus.

PT 140MilPro (3rd.Gen)

No worries. I'll get more.

Yep, and I don't like to badmouth companies, but as much as I'd like to say I really like both of 'em, I can't.:uhoh:

My .22 941 is handy, but has some ill fitting parts, timing is poor.

My .44 Special 441 feels great in my hand - but has a couple of problems that have vexed me from the first day I had it (eight, maybe ten years ago). I mean problems - like locking up entirely or failing to index at all. I refuse to carry a firearm for CCW that's done something like FAIL TO FIRE. So what I do with it these days is take it to the range, whenever I'm feeling lucky or feeling like I need aggravation :banghead: just for the fun of it.:cuss:

My first handgun, purchased new for $200 the day after I turned 21 (1987), was/is a Taurus 66. I've had no issues with it, and it has done well what I've asked of it. It was stolen in 1989, and recovered in 1992. Still works well. I'd buy another (I like the 85-series.)
I had a Model 94, also, purchased in 1990, I think. I used it to orient my then-wife to handguns and self-defense. It also served as expected. I let her take it with her when we divorced in 1996.

I have three.
All are problem free.

Me too, and all are amazingly accurate.

My 4" M66 is the best medium frame .357 revolver I've owned. I've owned three others, a Security Six, a M19 Smith, and a Rossi 971. The 66 has the best out of the box trigger and by far the best accuracy. My older 3" is accurate, but the trigger is less stellar, usable, not nothing to brag about. It's the older hammer block lockwork. My M85UL is accurate and has a fantastic out of the box DA and SA trigger, better even than my 4" M66, best out of the box trigger I've ever owned.

Just back from a combat pistol training class yesterday, and once again the PT111 MilPro 9mm performed flawlessly and impressively, (I should get a commission from Taurus as I've been doing their selling for them). One Glock and one Sig both had FTF & FTE problems all afternoon. Another Glock spewed rounds from the mag all over the ground after shooter bumped bottom of mag on a doorway. Perhaps not Glock's fault entirely, but a deadly situation none the less.

I've had my Taurus .38 snub nose for almost 6 years. Lots of ammo through it. No problems. Very accurate considering its 2 inch barrel. Never had anything go wrong. I've heard bad things about Taurus, but never experienced any. I voted good Taurus.

''The Tokarev is about as good of a handgun as there is IMO...''
you and I must be the only shooters in the good ol' US of A that think so,King G....I got my Tokarev about twenty years ago, converted it to 9mm,sold it,bought it back, and it shoots as well as a BHP that cost easily four times the price. If it weren't for the cruddy import safety,I might be calling myself ''Tokarev Fan''!

Voted good Taurus, all I've got is a little PT22 but I rather like the little popper. Seems most all .22 auto's are rather picky about ammo, mini mags in mine work great consistently. Also bought a box of the Remingon econo-gold rounds, which have had a couple fail to feed (a couple out of near 500). No stovepipes or extraction problems, which I anticipated might arise, being no extractor on that particular model. Don't really stake my life on it anyways, just a little nostril gun. I've heard a lot of people favor the PT92 to the Beretta, can't speak on the matter but am very partial to the Beretta myself. If I could go back, I'd buy the Taurus again without hesitation. Chose that after a Beretta bobcat in the end afterall. Still, when it came time for the .38 snub I went the S&W route.

I have had PT1911 since August. I havn't had many problems with it (other than the .45 being a hand cannon), but that was expected. Only have 300 rounds through it because .45 is expensive, and my college studies have kept me busy.

Some people have problems with the ambi safety, mine's fine, but I don't use a safety as I 1) Only use it for a plinker (no CHL yet) and 2) I wouldn't carry cocked&locked if I did.

My major gripe is the full length guide rod and the mainspring plug in reassembling. It cuts into my thumb and makes reassembly a pain in the ass. I am getting better at it, but it takes a bit of time.

My first handgun is a used PT-99. Haven't had any issues so far and I only use cheap ammo from walmart.

I have a 24/7 pro 9mm full size since last April/May. Not a problem until recently, but it eats everything with no issues, including super-sparkly Blazer aluminum cases. no jams/feed problems, goes bang every time.

Only issue I've had is, and this just started, when I load a full mag and smack it into place, the slide lock will suddenly let loose sending the slide forward and chambering a round - all without me manually releasing the slide. I think, as my shooting buddy/neighbor does, that the fully loaded mag has somehow flared out a bit on the wall of the mag, causing the problem.

Oh, a new edition to the family!
I guess your Taurus must be having a PT-145. Would you call that a mini-taurus?

by the poll results there seem to be alot of happy taurus owners, that is good to see. I don't own one but i have shot many different models, and have never had any compliants.

I have had a reliable PT92 for 11 years and love it still. I even prefer it to the Beretta 92.
after shooting the taurus version i agree.

No Taurus fanboy here, but my PT1911, the only gun I've ever purchased new, has been 100% (with those Taurus mags, even) since the day I opened the box.

More than I can say for many of my used guns, even my AK :what:, or the used Mossberg pump I just purchased.

I voted "Good". Would I get a Taurus again? Maybe. Honestly, I realize that I got lucky and the vocal Taurus haters really give me pause.

Would I get a PT1911 again? Absolutely, if they were still $450 new out the door.

My PT 24/7 DAO in 9mm has seen many rounds down range never given me a bit of a problem. Have since purchased a HK USP 9mm used. Still have both guns and both are fired about equally and love both of them. Have been thinking about a "Judge" then i heard about BFR in the same cal and have not found anything on BFR other than their web page. I probably could buy two Judge's for the price of the bfr but that is not the issue. To clairify on which judge the 6 1/2in barrel

This is a design ported over from the OSS line for situations that require quick reload. You will find all 24/7 pros do the same especially when the magazine is forcibly slammed home. I have one that does the same. I also own a pt1911, and a pt145. All guns with the exception of perhaps one or 2 misfeeds per 300 rounds approx (cheap ammo) with the pt145 have performed better than expected. I have ran at least a 1000 rounds through each weapon. Good Taurus!!

I owned a stainless model 85 and was completely pleased with it. My wife loved it also but we got broke early on in our marriage and sold it to keep the financial wolves at bay. I've been regretting that decision ever since.

MY wife another revolver, and the model 85 is what we're considering.
