S&W 36 Vs. Walther PPK/S CCW

well guys i have both of the guns mentioned above(the only 2 pistols i enjoy to carry) and i was just wondering which one is better overall?,i mean ya i know i should be able to tell since i own the guns,and i know its mainly based on which i shoot best ,but i shoot them both about the same,i just wanted to know which is better in terms of stopping power and such?

Virtually the same physical size, to me the Walther feels heavier. I have a similar pistol with an alloy frame that feels better for carry.

Hot 38 loads (such as my 125/1150 loads) will out perform 380 rounds.

The auto carries 2 more rounds than the revolver and has a faster reload.

I have both and like both. The model 60 (.38) has five shots, and my PP (.32) has nine (8 in the mag +1 in the chamber). Not arguing which is the better cartridge - personally I like the .38 - but with almost twice the rounds, the .32 has some appeal. I would not count on any handgun for a one shot stop.

When you go to the range which one is more likely to be used for practice?

Which is easier for you to clean and maintain after practice? This tends to translate to being used more. I shoot my 38 more since I use a 38 to shoot Bullseye with on occasion.

I used to have a small carry semi auto. and several service size pistols. I'm a cheap guy who reloads, I was more inclined to use the revolver since recovering spent brass was part of the range drill.
Same when I was hiking and wanted to expend some rounds at stuff. Revolvers fit my cheap recycle mood of life and I tend to shoot them more.
I think with less practice a Semi Auto Pistol is easier to shoot, I just practice more with a revolver.
If worry you don't worry about where the brass went and cost of reloading is not a factor. The Walther would be fine.

I have both I carry the PPK/S a lot more Its flatter reloads faster and with DPX I feel equal to the 38spl .

My daughter and I own both, a S&W 2" model 60 (with an "R" serial prefix)
and a stainless American made Walther PPK on .380 ACP. Both are great
firearms; but more often than not, one of us totes the S&W J-frame~! ;)

I currently own and sometimes carry a Model 36. I used to own a PPK/S.

While I liked the PPK/S, I would prefer a 158gr. LSWC-HP +P over any .380 load, every time in any situation in which I'm likely to find myself. The only justification I can see for the PPK/S is a situation in which the 36 (or my Glock 19) is just too big. I'm not a cop and have a CHL in a state where open carry is legal. Deep cover isn't a need I have. Neither is "printing" a concept to which I have to pay the slightest attention.

I'd go with the Model 36.
