I just got a PTR91 and a Original H&K Claw mount with Picatinny Rail. Now looking for options on a good tactical / sniper style scope. I would like adjust power and maybe illuminated. I can do without the illuminated. This is the 18" Model with Thompson Match Barrel. Also need to keep in mind it has to be able to clear the charging handle i hear some of the larger scopes like 50mm obj may not only be to long but interfer. I dont know. I perfer sub $500 range optic but want decent clarity. It would be nice to have target knobs. Maybe 1/8 MOA adjustments.

Lets here the recommendations even if not within my preferences.

Leupold has some 1.1-4 and 5X scopes in the VX3 and Mark 4 lines.

Either, with some looking can be found for less than 500.00.

I can't remember, if your claw mount is 26mm or 1". You might measure it to be sure.

If it's 26mm, check ebay for Kahles ZF series scopes, those should work fine. Fixed 6X most times.

Eye relief may be the hard thing to get right.

B Square makes an aftermarket mount in 1", I'm not certain if they make one in 30mm or not.

Well, the guy said "picatinny rail", so any optics would go on it. I'd recommend something with the 44mm bell, max. The 44mm bell is a pretty good compromise between scope's weight&bulk and good light gathering ability.

I wouldn't want the 1/8 moa clicks, but it depends what use you have for it? Tactical type of shooting, which would like fast, 1 moa click, turrets and low powered scope (up to 9x or 12x, but mostly rather 4x or 6x magnification), or some low-rate benchwork? You see, 1/8 moa clicks take a lot of turret turning to adjust the point of aim over a wider range of distances and is rather meant to offer precise adjustments while shooting at unknown distances. Anyway, I would not recommend going below 1/4 clicks.

Also, if you're scoping the rifle, you need a cheek pad. Either commercial or a "bandage-roll-and-duct-tape" type.

I like the IOR 6x "tactical" (WHY must everything be tactical???) with the 1/2 mil hash-mark reticle, MP8 I think they call it.

The optics are simply spectacular, while the outside finish is sort of rough, and it is a heavy scope. I would recommend it without hesitation due to the clarity of the optics. At distances out to 600 yards or so I can see prairie dogs clearly through this scope, and at 6x, it has all the magnification I can hold.

I have an IOR/Valdada M24 4X scope on my PTR.
This scope is basically a Romanian made high quality copy of the Russian PSO scope that is issued with the Dragunov Sniper Rifles.

Newer versions of this scope have a battery powered illuminated reticle and there are some reticle choices.
The scope is built like a tank and takes the usual abuse and recoil with no problems.

I have a Trijicon Accupoint 1.25-4X variable power scope that I may try later.
The eye relief on this scope is so great that getting an acceptable mount may pose a challenge.
