I have the choice of a mn m38 or m91/30, a swiss k31 or an enfield no.4 mk1 in excellent condition with a good bore. Which one?
Those of you that vote enfield i would like to know why strictly out of curiosity. See I don't know much about their accuracy and need to know how they shoot 1-2.5 inch groups is what i want out of my mil-surp and that's extreme but i hold to it. Is an enfield capable of this?

I'd take the Enfield, personally.

May I ask why? I know the k31 is most accurate

im the first to vote mosin 91/30, but then again only 5 people have voted. i have a mosin, and an enfield. i have shot a k31, love them. but ammo is out the roof, and i personally hate how the enfield cocks when pushing the bolt back instead upon opening like the mosin. so go mosin.

ammo is not an issue as i reload, but i understand where you are coming from, that mosin trigger is awful though and the accuracy is limited so personally i will only get that if the price is 100 or under. It is an option though.

I say the Enfield. Usually much better quality than Moisin Nagants. They also hold twice as much ammo, and are faster. The Moisin Nagants are great, but NO match for a good Enfield. It can be hard to extract casings from a Moisin Nagant when you are using old steel case ammo, which most of it is. Part of this issue is the short bolt handle, you just can't get enough leverage.

I don't have any experience with K31s though, so I'm not much help there.

The K31 has these benefits over the rifles you mentioned.

1. Highest build quality
2. Highest quality ammunition available at a reasonable price, GP11.
3. Easily, cheaply, and effectively scoped without altering rifle.
4. Excellent trigger pull.
5. Shoots standard 30 caliber bullets, which is a plus if you reload.
6. Excellent standard iron sights.
7. Excellent diopter sights available

I own all of the rifles you mentioned, and they are all worth while,
but the K31 is superior for these reasons. I believe them also to
be the most beautiful, but that quality is subjective and in the eye
of the beholder.

Beautiful rifle.
What type of mount and optics are on it?

I have seen pics of your beauiful rifle all over the internet and it is my background for my computer lol. I believe that's a k4-1 weaver correct? Anyway all of the above benefits are true. So should I get the beech k31 in select condition from Samco or the walnut in very good condition from Samco? They are the same price but the beech is in better overall condition. Any input you have would be nice. Keep up the voting guys I have till black friday to figure it out. lol

I voted enfield. A very close 2nd was the K31. For me, ammunition availablility and traditional bolt action puts the enfield higher than the K31. However, if you value those things differently, or are willing to buy a case of ammo with the rifle, the K31 is understandable. Mosins are not as accurat in my experience (Maybe its the ammo...) HOWEVER, the cost of a Mosin Nagant is so low, that on cost alone it is a very attractive rifle. It will do 95% of what any other bolt action will do. 91/30's double as a club. :D

The K31 will be the best shooter. Enfields are nice rifles too, but you'll either have to buy commercial ammo, handload or use Pakistani surplus that everyone agrees is utter crap.

Mosin Nagant's aren't in the same league. They're a great deal for the money and ammo is cheap and plentiful, but compared to the others, they're inferior rifles by just about any criterion. I prefer the 91/30 myself.

Okay going to try to get both the k31 and the enfield. Question is should I get a walnut k31 in very good condition or a beech k31 in excellent condition? I already where to the enfield in excellent condition for 225.

Actually I shouldn't rule out a yugo m24/47 I have reloading components and dies for the 8x57. Let me know what you think of that vs enfield.

I prefer the Enfield and by a wide margin. The 24/47's tend to be in excellent condition, (except for being absolutely saturated in cosmoline, mine was like new), but unless you're planning to sporterize it, I think the Enfield is a much better rifle. The Enfield has much better sights, a 10 round mag and a much faster and smoother action.

Now if you were considering getting the Enfield AND the 24/47, then I'd say, "go for it." It's nice to have a small collection of milsurps. It gives you a real understanding of the different rifles pros and cons.

I voted for the K31. I don't have one, I haven't shot one, but I really, really want to. Not only is the straight pull just awesome, but they are beautiful rifles. Soon, hopefully...
