When did Ruger ditch the rubber grips with rosewood inlays? My dad has one like this, and I like it alot.

Seems like all the NIB GP100's I've seen lately have Hogue style grips. They're not nearly as cool looking as the ones with rosewood inlays, in my opinion.

I was at Bass Pro today, checking one out for a little Christmas present to myself.

Much to my dismay, it had some Hogue-esque finger-groove grips on it. Heck, half the reason I was so attracted ot the GP100 was the inlaid grips.

The wood inlaid grips usually go fairly cheap on ebay or gunbroker.
We traded the hogue grips that came on my wifes to a guy for his old style inlays.

I personally really like the new grips, I thought the old ones were hideous. To each their own I suppose.

Used to like Hogue finger groove grips which were on my 686, until I shot a rental GP100 with the wood inlay. Shot my best DA groups ever. Needless to say, a GP now lives in my gun cabinet.

Am on the lookout for SW grips that will feel like GP100 original grips.

I also really like the original style inlaid grips. I wish they would switch back to the old style.

The reason they switched is because the company that made the old grips no longer exists. Since Hogue was already making nice aftermarket grips, Ruger simply bought a truckload. Seems kind of ridiculous to me that Ruger doesn't at least offer the wood Hogues as an option.

That said, the Hogues do fit the hand and absorb recoil VERY nicely...it's like it was designed for my hand, but I also think it should be against the law for revolvers to wear rubber. :cuss:

yep! Mr. Lett that made the rosewood grips retired.
the rubber & locator is still available & some handsome panels made by 41 mag on the ruger forum .com & net .
the rosewood are available but in limited numbers (i think)crs kiks in & out at times !!!!

I also liked the old grips better. I've shot many a Ruger revolver and feel the old grips did a good job of controlling the recoil. I friend likes the wood inlay grips so much he bought the Rosewood inlays for his SP101 to replace the Black inlays just to match the stock grips that were on the GP100. Actually, they look very good together.

I ordered a set of the old-style grips from Ruger a few weeks ago for around $30 shipped. I don't even have a GP100 yet, but hope to get one soon. I've always liked the insert-style grips since they first came out.
