Does anybody here have hands on shooting experience with current production High Standard Supermatic Trophy ?
Interested to know if they shoot as well as the old ones.
Accuracy, reliability, sights etc.
Finish of secondary importance.
Thanks
Sam

I have the same question. There is so much trash talking of the Texas guns, but I haven't heard any first-person observations.

The best place to take such questions is Jim Spacek's site: http://www.tm-techmark.com/jspacek.htm
Do some searching and noodling around.

Think I shook that site down pretty well and found nothing on the recent ones. Other than some stuff on the Houston mags and if they will work on the vintage guns.

personally i'd like to know the same info but about the 1911-style pistols they're making/selling. since i live within an hour's drive of the place it'd be interesting to know and i just prefer to support local businesses, within reason.
no reason to go to a place that makes "fecal matter" regardless.
so if C.R. Sam does not mind, I think i'll start watching this thread as well for my own info search... :)

Detritus....shoot no; I don't mind. Like you, I want to learn about their product without having to first buy.
I was told a while back that the .45 frames were bought from South America and called HS to verify. Was told that a crock. They make em in Texas.
If I lived as close as you, I'd be over there fondling and asking.:D

actually i done fondled a couple, but being a 1911-neophyte i do not feel as if MY impressions are accurate/trustworthy ones.
so i kinda wanted someone else's (preferably someone who owns one) insight.
as for what I think of what i saw.....
~need "droolin fool" icon~ (if there isn't some hidden reason NOT to get it) all i can say is "I WANT ONE!!!!"
been looking at their "GI model" (looks like a USGI 1911A1) and at least in all aspects that I personally can see etc it looks lieka Great pistol esp for the money.
(taking this next bit with a grain of salt) guys who were selling the examples i saw, said that although HS says to only feed the GI-model hardball (ie only guarunteed to feed that round), that they have yet to make one jam with any sort of factory ammo.
my two problems arise in that..
One my rear is dead broke (unemployed, and looking desparately)
and two, the only shop in houston, that seems to keep the H.S. 1911's in at all times is a place that wants straight MSRP ($498) for one :what: last time i was in there to look at the High Standards, i had to do the "look at gun, look interested, try not to laugh in clerk's face, knowing that you'll NEVER buy from this shop for the simple reason, that you try to discourage robbery...." thing.
i can't find the slip of paper that i wrote down what the local "mom&pop shop" said they'd order me one for (4-5 months ago), but it was MAYBE $440-450 and i can get them to make that the "all up and out the door" price.. plus not having to drive to houston!! :D :D
oh and just to make clear, reason i got REAL interested in the High Standard, is that the first hand gun i ever shot was a Supermatic Citation, talk about "spoil you for LIFE!!" something about a handgun that outshoots half the .22 RIFLES on the line....... so i figure it would just be real neat to make my first 1911 a High Standard as well.:)
