I keep seeing a S&W model 10-5 snubnose advertised for sale somewhere else. The seller says it locks up tight & that there are some minor cosmetic flaws though I couldn't see them in the pictures. He also said something about a number being etched in the backstrap(maybe old PD gun). Anyway the guy is asking 300 dollars for the gun. Is this a good price? I'd have to talk to the wife but my Father in Law keeps talking about wanting a 38-was thinking it might make a nice Christmas present.

$300 is not totally out of line. So much depends on the exact condition of the gun. Mechanical condition is more important, but cosmetics do play a role.
Not so long ago, $300 would have been too high for a 10-5, but they have gone up. The days of Model 10's being $150 guns are gone.
Take a look at the gun and see what you think. Have cash in hand. Offer $250 and be willing to walk away if he doesn't bite unless you are willing to pay $300.

I have 3 model 10's
one original 10 4" barrel
one 10-5 Australian police 3" barrel
one 10-8 4" Heavy barrel soon to have a crimson trace laser grip installation!
The most expensive one was the 3" it ran me about 280 the other ones were right at 250
If you don’t want that snubby, let me know I will take it the shorter ones seem to go for 300 to 350 depending on condition. Pay attention to the grips look for chips or nicks. Often times a "like new" set will set you back up to 60 bucks.
If you do get it, dont use the +P rounds they are too hot for the older model 10's
I would go for it!!

I'd rather have a old S&W than a new what ever any day.
