Craven deputies investigate murder
By Francine Sawyer
Freedom ENC

New BERN - For the second time in a week, Craven County Sheriffs
deputies are investigating a homicide in the James City-Grantham area.

Deputies were called to a house on Battleground Avenue off U.S. 70 just
before 7 p.m. Thursday.

A woman was reportedly assaulted there. As the first deputy arrived, he
was told to guard the crime scene and keep people from trampling through
the area.

Craven County District Attorney W. David McFadyen Jr. had just gotten
ready to eat dinner at a retirement dinner for State Highway Patrol
Trooper Ken Hill at a local restaurant when McFadyen's cell phone
sounded.

I can't stay, he said. There has been an apparent murder on Battleground
Avenue.

Investigators were still at the scene as of press time and were unable
to provide more details.
McFadyen and county investigators were in the area investigating a
shooting death just seven days ago.

Gaston Bell Fulcher, 56, of 1004 Neuse Drive, was gunned down by his
wife, Linda Taylor Fulcher, just before 2 p.m. at the couples home.
Gaston Fulcher, whose family asked that donations be made to a charity
aiding those suffering from bi-polar disorders, suffered from the
disorder.

Family members say he voluntarily committed himself for treatment many
times during his lifetime. He had a large butcher knife at the time he
was shot by his wife, who had a .38-caliber handgun, police said.
Investigators say the shooting was in self-defense and no charges were
filed against the wife.

Sounds like his wife suffered from his disorder, too.

Glad she survived #1 and #2.

Wrong verb. Criminals "gun down" their victims.

Nobody beats women who keep and bear arms.

Good for her, it's about time a battered woman takes a stand. I am shocked that they are not pressing charges on her. Usually they do....Thats all I am going to say, I can go on and on about this subject.

I never looked at it that way. Womens groups always want to talk about how the workplace is so unequal, or how women can't defend themselves against rapists. They always spout off about how things are so unequal.

Wakeup Woman!! why do you think they call a gun an "Equalizer" There is no greater equalizer that I can think of.

Exactly, StandingWolf - shows anti-gun bias. While "gunned down" 's detonation is not negative, its connatation is among most people.
