The shrouded hammer part is going to be hard to find stock. You might have the hammer done yourself.

Handled a few things back when I was thinking along the same lines - my eventual choice was a 2.5" barreled SP101 in .357... only five shots, only a bobbed hammer, but DANG is it nice.
You're going to have a hard time finding a small stainless revolver in .357 holding 6 shots without it being HUGE or expensive. Might I suggest going with a 5 shot, either the Ruger SP101 or the S&W 649?

S&W 640 is your best bet. 5 shot. I think it's your ONLY bet unless you get something custom made. I think Charter Arms had a similar 5-shot in .44 Special.

649 is shrouded hammer, stainless, 357mag, 2" barrel, but 5 shot...
640 is an internal hammer. :)

.380awsome, I think there is somebody still makeing hammer shrouds, one on a 3" S&W model 65 will be what you seek. The shroud is not a drop in part. orchidhunter p.s. W. Waller & Son, INC Sunapee, NH. They just make them for S&W J frames and Colt DS, so you are back to 5 shots. orchidhunter

Another option might be to get a K-frame snubbie with a bobbed hammer. A deputy friend of mine had a Parkerized 3" Model 13 with bobbed hammer and custom trigger job that fired DAO.
I handled the thing, and it was LOVE. Unfortunately, it was to be unrequited, as he already promised the gun to someone else.
That M13 always struck me as the PERFECT combat revolver... :)

These are indeed good weapons. An easier to find alternative is a used model 19/66 in 2.5". Same as the 13, but 1/2" less barrel (and much easier to find leather for) and with adjustable sights. The adjustable sights are very fast to acquire - much faster than the fixed, and are low profile enough and rounded that they don't usually pose a problem when carrying. The compact K frame is very handy and concealable. A smaller 6 shot 357 would be very hard to find. Lots and lots of these were made, so finding one isn't terribly hard.

It sounds like the S&W Model 65 would meet your requirements, except for the shrouded hammer.
You could get one and have a gunsmith convert it to DAO and then bob the hammer.
I carry a stock Model 65 with a 3" barrel and it's a fantastic carry revolver.

Back in the days before the L-frame S&W I carred a nickel M-13 as a duty weapon and it became my favorite carry revolver other than a M-60 that I carred in my boot. I think it is an excellent all-around revolver and feels good in the hand.

+1 for the bobbed hammer. I'm kind of partial to my SS 2.75" ruger security six. The only thing that could beat it in my opinion is a bobbed hammer speed six since it is a round butt!

I admire the S&W model 686 Plus so much that I would search for one of those "aftermarket" clamp on shrouds at all the sites, and if I could not find one, I would still get that gun, and continue to search all the old shops in my area, and everywhere until I did find one.
Or...have a reputable machine shop make one from aluminum alloy, instead of gunsmithing the spur away.

Grips are an option. Not my grips or pix, but ebay says these are Bianchi Pachmayr grips.

I'd like to find some of those grips for my Ruger. Have a S&W Bodyguard which is with the shroud. Taurus is also making them with the hammer shroud.

Colt Magnum Carry (if you can find one) with a W. Waller & Son's hammer shroud.
Fits all your requiremnts.
Stainless.
6 shot D frame (same as a DS)
.357 Magnum
2" barrel
hammer shroud should fit, as Waller makes one for D frame Colts.
Not the easiest one to find, but they're out there.
I saw one at a show in N.H. and fell in love with it, but as I'm Mass. resident, and it's not on "the list" I couldn't purchase it. Trying to find on that's all ready in Mass. (crazy Mass. laws) has proved to be damned near impossible.

Another hooraah for the S&W 686 +Plus: it is available with a seven round cylinder, and...is currently in supply too.

You can go 5 shot and 357 (S&W 640) or 6 shot and 38 Spl. (Colt Det Spl)

Combat? Get a rifle, and take a few friends who also have rifles.
