DPMS thinking about one?

November 27, 2008, 08:30 AM
I just ordered mine the LR-308.I ordered it without any options because of the turnaround time getting it.I did want some changes, however wanted it sooner than later.Changes can be done later. It could still be 6 to 8 months.I heard that alot of or some changes could extend the time to build to a year and a half plus.If your wanting one I would not wait too long! I have heard DPMS has orders for alot to build.Just thought to pass this along to anyone thing about one.If you see one new for sale it sure would be a good idea to consider getting it!
Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks for the info, I've got a friend who is dead set on a .308. The local Scheel's usually carries a selection, but they're out of .308's.

What barrel length did you opt for?

I ordered the LR-308 just as seen on there web page.

Talking to a local dealer a few days ago. Says he tried to place an order with DPMS last FEB. They redirected him to one of their distributors, because their orders were being filled first. Anyway, he placed an order for 10 in FEB. And hasnt seen the first one yet.

I have several friends with this gun.In fact one is in the trophy page on the DPMS web site.He took a ground hog at 440 yds...there is a green ford truck in the background.Just one of many nice shots he has made!

Just my .02, but I would opt for the cryo treatment and fluting for sure. The A3 upper would be a strong consideration as well. I ordered mine back in Feb. and it only took about 6 weeks, and I ordered mine with several options that should have taken them longer. The barrel upgrades were well worth it, and if I had to do it over again but knew that I would have to wait considerably longer, I would still do the barrel upgrades. At 200yds I am averaging .74 moa for 3 and 5 round groups. Best 3 rd is .196 moa and best 5rd is .254moa, both at 200yds. This is off a harris bi-pod. I haven't shot it yet with the new rear monopod yet. Ammo is federal gold match 168gr.
The options I ordered were:
A3 upper
Chrome bolt carrier
24" barrel cryo treated, fluted and parkerized/coated
JP trigger

I love this rifle.

I didn't want to wait for one, so I found a Remington R-25 (made by DPMS) on GunBroker and I grabbed it. Should be here next week. There's a price we pay for impatience, and don't even ask, because I'm not telling. The only thing I'll have to wait weeks or months for are extra magazines, but those I'll have some patience with. Some guys were auctioning them at almost twice MSRP, which is three times what MidWay sells them for (when they have them in stock). Crazy times.

"i love this rifle"

10-4, very comfortable, accurate, easy to handle.

i bought from a dealer in June, to not wait. i plan on cryo'ing my barrel at the end of the season. dealer claimed JP trigger, had flutes and grip.

i added the larger latch/charging handle (to grab under scope) and the larger/rocker bolt catch/release button, seen below. i added the PRS stock (found the 'stock-stock' left me a bit low vs. scrope height, and these are normal 1.125" rings, not extra-high. that 56mm objective still fits (the lr-308's flat top seems to be a bit higher than the 308 carbines))

modified 'tactical' handles. i did shoot it with the stock ones, and found them less than ideal for me, but personal pref. easy self-swap parts.

flat-top height, and one piece scope base (before i moves scope forward for eye releif settings)

anyways, i've shot several SKS and some other ARs and nothing was as tight/sturdy as this gun. the lower/upper come together great, the beefiness of the lower/upper is awesome, like from an ignot (or billet, since alum :) )

i plan on getting an 'ap4' style upper so i can re-user my lower and stock, and the 24" upper/barrel assembly will keep that scope and the ap4 upper will get a shorter range based optics set.

i figure, save some $ but also know/use the stock/grip/trigger since it'll be the same on both 'platforms'.

have fun.

I just lucked into a DPMS 308 AP4 with Quad Rail while scouring my local dealers two weeks ago! He had one comming in from a distributer that wasn't spoken for!

I picked up a REM R-25 this morning from Cabela's for less then $1300. It was in their 4 hour super-sale day after Thanksgiving advertisement. I was the first one in line which meant zero sleep and getting there before 2am. It was worth it as they only had two in stock at the store. I'll be scoping it in the morning and grouping it later in the day. I have been wanting to pick one of these up since they were announced. I know the relationship with DPMS however I had random ejection/extraction problem with a previously owned DPMS rifle. I never solved that one. My thoughts are that with the big "Remington" stamped on the side of this rifle I'll have better luck.

I'd like to hear how that goes -- what you scope it with and if you're satisfied with the results.

I mounted a Leupold Vari X III 3.5 x 10 on the R-25 this morning and went to the range with a couple boxes of Remington 165gr Premier AccuTips. The rifle was flawless with no hiccups. After getting the scope dialed in at 100yds I shot for accuracy with three round groups. I consistently hovered around 1" to 1.25" group size from the bench. The trigger feels more crisp after breaking it in. I'm sure the rifle can do sub moa and think it is a matter of finding the right load. I picked up a box of Federal Premium 165gr Nosler Accubond and a box of Winchester 168gr Ballistic Silvertip on the way home from the range and will be trying those loads as soon as I can.

The rifle ws well worth the bucks and 4 hours waiting in front of Cabelas the day after Thanksgiving.

I've been to every gun show for 4 months trying to find one and I couldn't be more frustrated. I need one of these but I cant find one anywhere. I don't want to waste money on getting just anything but I need to get something before the power shift.

Interesting thing that I read yesterday in the industry forum on AR15.com.

According to a DPMS representative, the BACKORDER backlog on rifles at DPMS is more rifles than they sold all of last year!
