I just purchased a Special Weapons SW5 for MP5 F/A use, have heard they were good to go and hopefully its so. Anyone here have any knowledge of them, bad or good? What tinkering do i need to do if any to get it to run F/A reliably? Whats a good list of spare parts to have? Anything you can add to this is appreciated, Thanks.

I'm sorry, but I am a bit confused. Did you buy a semi-auto weapon and want to know how to convert it? Or did you buy a registered Machine Gun and want to know how to fix it?

Please clarify.

Generally, I've understood people with sears to avoid SW and go with either HK or Vector Arms. Being that neither of those are producing new items, I'd STILL go with Ohio Rapid Fire over SW.

SW is just really, really poor quality, unfortunately.

I won't comment on legality except maufacture/illegal possesion/not registering NFA firearms, including select fire/fullauto, will get you 30 years in Club Fed, and about $300,000 in fines. Bad idea. Prison food sucks. Forget it.
Only thing else I can say is the SW HK semi-auto clones we had at the rental range were pure and simple junk, sorry. The 9mm version would dump LIVE rounds inside the firing mechanism, and the 45 version could not shoot straight for anything.

Hm, I guess I've been around NFA items too much. I assumed the original poster has a registered HK sear and wants new hosts. :)

That could be, hope that is the case.

A week ago I saw a registered HK sear priced at $14,000 ... I don't find anything sensible about a gun law that causes a little piece of machined steel to cost the same as a car. I wonder what the general public would think about that...

Highest value metal, by weight. :)

There is nothing illegal going on here in BeltfedMG's post.

His thread title says it all, "Special Weapons SW5 for HK sear host ?'s"

For those that don't know there are a fair number of HK sears out there that will allow full auto fire in an HK or HK style weapon. These are legal and registered items that will not get you in any trouble. Anyone with the cash can buy one if they go through the standard procedure of procuring an NFA item.

Generally the SW clones are frowned upon as they need a fair amount of tinkering to get them to run right. But there are also stories out there of many that have run like champs straight out of the box. In the end you pays your money and takes your chances.

By the way, it is 10 years, and $250,000 in fines for an unregistered NFA weapon, and that is a maximum penalty. I am not condoning unregistered items. But 30 years and $300,000 is incorrect.

Thank you Exposure.

You guys who know it all need to chill out. Yes i own a LEGAL Qualified sear, can go in any HK gun and convert it to full auto legally. No $300,000 fine, no 30 yrs in jail. You know alot dont you?

Armoredman, Thanks for your input, i heard the first ones were bad for reliability but the later ones were OK. I have a vector arms 53 and it runs perfect with the sear in it, hopefully the SW5 does too. If not i will have to send it off for work done to it, sell it or??

I have couple posts on different sites about this and it seems mixed reveiws, half good half not. We will see.

Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving.

Don't let them phase you almost every NFA thread here people start freaking out,

In my little ( and by little researching forums) experience I would suggest if you can get a HK 94 a lot of people get those and host from it.

Sorry, just going by this, NFA '34.

5861. Prohibited acts

It shall be unlawful for any person --
...
(c) to receive or possess a firearm made in violation of the provisions of

this chapter; or
...
(d) to receive or possess a firearm which is not registered to him in the

National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record; or
...
(f) to make a firearm in violation of the provisions of this chapter; or
...
...

5871. Penalties

Any person who violates or fails to comply with any provision of this chapter shall, upon conviction, be fined not more than $10,000, or be imprisoned not more than ten years, or both.

Whoops, dropped a zero, there, not $300, just 30K, according to that, and the copy we had at the shop. Sorry, my mistake. I have seen registered sears, but not many, and all the MP5s and MP10s I have fired, (yes, the 10mm MP10, nifty little 2 round burst the Feebs use.), none of them were auto sears, so it didn't register, sorry. That's just the KABA link, didn't go dig it up at fed.gov yet.

But if SW has improved thier quality, that's great.

First off, if the weapon doesn't have the FA carrier installed, you'll need one of those. I have no idea on the SW guns if they have a FA carrier or not - all my Vectors came with them from the shop.

If it's currently in rifle configuration (and you have other hosts), it may be cheaper for you to flip the gun now and have a MP5 pistol built to your specs from the get go, since you'll probably not want to deal with a 16" rifle barrel or fake can, and SBRing it is an additional expense (for the times you don't have the sear installed).

If it's a pistol config, disregard above.

Before buying anything in the spare parts department:
-Test with semi-pack it came with.
-Check bolt gap.

If both check out ok, then switch to registered sear/pack and go to town. If it works, buy the usual culprits of spare parts (mags, extractor/ejector/firing pin/etc).

If it doesn't, check shelf height. Shim if necessary to raise ejector (if FTEj). If anything else, and it works in semi, flip it and get a kit MP5 built to your specs or try to find a Vector (they're out there but up in price quickly). If you're determined to go down the replace parts and pray route, consult with Adam Webber (from whom you'll likely be buying parts and toys from anyway) for suggestions. Expect to be looking at bolt heads, etc.

My Vector PDW:

I should add that anyone who knows what a sear host is or asks about one is 99.99% likely to be legal. HK guns and modularity and the ability to use one sear/pack per gun is why they're so common.
Retards generally start babbling about "Want MP5 for $500, how do I make it go zoom", not sear hosts.

The SW5 is in pistol format right now, has the steel butt cap on it, but im gonna get the A2 stock ?? Not the folder, this is for the kids and wife, if it were up to me id be spending my money on a Vector 51. It does have the short barrel, it is set for F/A (Bolt) and i just got a video from seller showing it running in semi and full auto, now if its actually the gun im getting, if it was edited, or whatever i dont know but it seemed to run good in the videos. Im just preparing myself for the worst.

I do like the PDW, thats what i will also end up with, whats the rate of fire on that thing? I hear its faster then M11 380's. Maybe ill sell my Mac 10 and get a real HK MP5K-PDW, dont ever shoot it anyways, dont like the thing.
Thanks for the help.

For the fullsize SW5, yeah, go A2 stock. The HK collapsibles are the coolest things on earth to play with but they're just not that fun to actually shoot. The side-folders are really only workable on the PDW guns, and look and feel clunky on the regular 8" platforms.

if it were up to me id be spending my money on a Vector 51.

Have two of those already, one set up for a Gemtech HVT can. ;0

Old lady can shoot the 51 but doesn't get enough enjoyment out of it to warrant the cost of .308 these days. Strangely enough she's as happy with a SKS or semi-AK or whatnot as with anything more expensive, which is a godsend as I'm expensive enough to keep happy.

950ish, add 15% for can.

To do that, you'll be buying a converted SP-89 with a replacement barrel for the 3 lug, and it in semi-auto will hit you in the $4500-6k range depending on what parts and accessories (paddle mag etc) come in with it.

And upon thinking, the one thing you probably will want to replace is the rear sight, most of the clones I've seen come with drilled-out G3 drums (Vector did it too), and for < $100 you can have the correct one put in that will likely tighten up groups substantially.

That and you might as well have what's correct vs. what was cheap.

NFA ones really get the blood flowing though, between the 'nobody needs one of those' to 'it can't be legal' or the 'you need a c3 license' bs, or 'can't hit crap with a 8" barrel' or god knows what gets invented next week.

Hopefully your SW5 will perform better than mine did. My two biggest gun buying mistakes I ever made was buying an MP5 clone from Special Weapons and after than one from Vulcan. Both of them turned out to be jam-o-matics and I'll never forgive myself for being suckered into either one:banghead:

I wish you the best of luck with yours. I had one of the early ones so hopefully if you have one of the newer ones it will be of better quality than the one I had.

My bad on my post. when he started the thread the topic was different. the "sear host" part wasn't on there. Best of luck to you with making the SW run. I have no personal experience, but from people are saying i guess its a problem.

i wish you the best with your NFA goodies.
