I’m buying this firearm for…
• Self Defense
• Informal Plinking

Research
• I’ve done some research
• I don’t even know where to start…HELP!
(Desperately looking for good alternatives to the obvious (and expensive))

Type
• I think I’m looking for a Semi-Automatic Pistol
• I think I’m looking for a Revolver

Trigger type
• Single Action Only (SAO)
• Double Action Only (DAO)
• Double Action/Single Action (DA-SA)
• Exotic (LDA, piezo, etc)

Has a recent crisis been the driving force in deciding to get a firearm?
• Yes - need to replace a small collection starting with a concealable fighting handgun.

Experience
• I have some experience with handguns but not with anything else.

Training (I have had the following…)
• Informal training by an instructor

I am
• Male (owner)
• Female (secondary operator)

Physical Size
• Average

My hands are
• Large

Do you have any problems with your hands (arthritis, missing digits, etc.)
None.

Concealability (I plan to carry)
• Concealed by a cover garment
• Concealed IWB (inside the waistband/inside clothing)
• I require “deep concealment”

Deep concealment must be possible, but will be considered a fallback option. Summers are hot, clothing is thin.

I am leaning towards a 9mm or .40 semi, but unless another Kahr comes along for $400, my first choice is out of the question. I'd happily buy a RAP 401/440, but they're scarcer than tritium and not stainless. I'm also leaning toward a single-stack for pocketability. A Boberg XR-9 (http://bobergengineering.com/) would be beyond awesome, but practical considerations (do I buy the first prototype, or the second?) make it ... difficult. Also, this is an option to add a Picatinny rail, which until now had been lacking and making adding a tac-light (nightstand duty) difficult. I could use a Surefire, but I'd rather not have to coordinate both on a small gun.

If you're keen on getting a Boberg, I wouldn't hold your breath since they're not currently in production. Also, I'd be leery of jumping on a brand new product for SD. If you're looking for a range gun, give it a shot though.

Not set on a Boberg, thought the joke or two I cracked about prototypes gave that away. It's a "Wouldn't it be nice if..." gun, really. I was hoping for realistic suggestions for nice ones I've overlooked, or good threads on the marketplace I've missed.
