Sierra bullets or Hornady bullets are usually the better bang for the buck in match grade, but my weapons have always preferred the Sierra.

Try any of the Sierra Match King HPBT in weight from 150 gr thru 168 gr. My 06's have liked a variety but 168 usually shot best at or near max loads.

If you are not looking for match accuracy, Hornady 150gr FMJBT bullets are less expensive and work quite well. Sometimes available at a bulk price for 1000 or 2000.

I use these to make up "military" loads for a Garand, and I understand some folks use them for varminting where they don't want a big hole in the coyote.

These aren't legal for hunting in many states as they don't expand.

I like cast bullet #311291, 170-gr RN GC. A rather accurate bullet unsized for .303 Brit and 7.7 Jap, and sized to .308, fine for .30-30, .308 Win, and .30-06. Used to load it to practice with my Garand when I was on the Army level rifle team. Material cost: about 3 cents each.

You can also pick up inexpensive jacketed bullets (and powder) from the surplus component dealers listed in Shotgun News...Wideners, Jeff Bartlet, ect.

Midway and Graf & Sons also occasionally have sales, and I've picked up some good deals on EBAY.

Bulk or milspec fmj are available widely, mostly in 150g. Pulled ex-mil are cheapest and they work for holes in paper, but they surely aren't match grade.

Shoney's observation on SMK HP 168 mirrors my 30-06 experience, especially with Varget or 4895 or 4350.
