Is a Surefire G3 LED too long or heavy for carbine use?

I went to order a Surefire G2 LED from Botach last week and they are out of stock, but they have G3 LED's on hand. The G3 is brighter, but is just over an inch longer.

I'll be using this on a SAR-1, mounted on a left side handguard rail with a GG&G ring.

Perhaps you should look at the Fenix TK-11 for use in your carbine.

It is shorter than the G3 and it can run also on a rechargeable 18650 battery.
It is 225 lumens for 1.5 hours or 12 hours at 60 lumens.

My TK-11 will fit in a horizontal split 1" ring.

The G3 is a bit bulky, but quite functional if that is already what you have. You can attach it quite readily with some very inexpensive scope rings.

The length parallels the length of the rifle, so that really should not be too much of a problem. It is still smaller than some of the older Surefire rigs dedicated for that very purpose.

I am running a 3 cell body like the G3, but running 2x 17500 Li-ions and a 380 lumen lamp from Lumens Factory.

It's mounted under the front sight tower on a tri-rail mount I got from AIM.

It's out of the way, and BRIGHT. I'd rather be running a turbohead, but they do not show up used... ever.
