alright boys i need some help. i bought a desert eagle before but returned it same day due to ammo costs. but now im having a change of heart. i already have my practical guns beretta 92fs, springfield 1911, springfield xd, ruger blackhawk. id like to know more about especially from those who own desert eagles themselves. i was looking at the 357 magnum version.

Desert Eagle is well made, gas operated, and extremely accurate. Gas operation tames punishing big calibers to a mild recoil. I've enjoyed my .44 for nearly 20+ years....great hunting gun. The one thing it is not....due to it's size, it's not the best candidate for CCW. Fun to shoot and holds resale value well.
You'll hear a few complaints about stove piping and feeding issues.....in almost every case it's limp wristing or using too light a load. Then there's the pinheads that think owning one is a statement of a person's "short comings"....most of those are gamers and movie fantasizers that couldn't afford one anyway.
I've always thought DE was more gun than the .357 chambering needed, it seemed better suited for the larger calibers. Some reason you prefer the .357 over the bigger calibers?

.357 is cheaper than .44Mag for one, and he may not intend it for any hunting, just as a range toy. In that case, the cartridge is not as important as how much it costs him to feed it.
ETA: I just thought of it now: the Desert Eagle is fixed barrel, gas operated; right? It's suppressor time...

"...due to ammo costs..." .357 or .44 mag ammo is going to cost the same as it does for a revolver. The only consideration is how well the pistol fits your hand. You have hands like a monkey?
