i see AIM Surplus has polish synthetic ak magazines for sale. i am wondering, are these any good compared to regular magazines? has anyone who has used them had any failure to feed problems or anything like that? also is the weight difference significant enough to be an advantage?

-thanks

I don't have direct experience, BUT there are posts on various boards that some of these mags are cracked. Hairline fractures that probably won't affect function, but it is an issue that some have experienced.

I have pretty much stuck with steel AK mags-although my attitude might be different if I actually carried alot of AK gear.

Many folks speak highly of the synthetics, but out of my half-dozen AK mags the only one that won't feed is my only synthetic. Sure looks and feels good, though.;)

The Bulgarian waffle mags are great in my SAR-1. I dislike the Polish synthetic mags, they all cracked and some failed to feed.

I have 10 of the Polish synthetics from AIM and they are good mags. The hairline cracks that some have found (mine do not seem to have any) are mostly superficial. Even those who claim that they have had chunks of polymer brake off of theirs say they still worked. They are however not as durable as the Bulgarian waffle mags. The waffles are still my range mag of choice.

One of my friends has some of the Bulgarian waffle mags. We tried one and found that when loaded, it does not seat in the rifle as easily as the steel mags. So, I think I'll pass.

OTH, those Hungarian 20 round steel mags intended for the AMD-65 look mighty appealing.
