Huh...What? My 995 came with 10 round mags. It shoots pretty good at 25 yards. It never had any problems after shooting 200 rounds.. not one problem.! Also, after one shot the Deer will be in the next County unless, you are Annie Oakley!

Hmmmm.. I feel for ya! The guys here in Missouri swear by the 50 cal Black Powder Rifles. The guys I know say they are accurete as all getout but, also say after one shot the Deer (Buck) is outta there! So, unless wounded bad you will never get a 2nd shot.

Disassemble the magazine and add a barrier to the bottom of the magazine or drill a hole in the magazine and insert a bolt that restricts the magazine follower to 4 rounds.

im not worried about a second shot. on my own land i know exactly where the deer cross and at what time every morning ive used the same blind 30yrds off the trail every year that ive gotten a private land tag. depending on how accurate the rifle turns out to be ill take either a head or neck shot like i do with my other guns.

this is one of the rare cases where im not so much hunting but shooting a deer and i use a different gun every year (try passing it off as a reason to buy a new gun, but honey i can use it to hunt out back)

Hunting deer with a 9mm pistol carbine? I like the 995, my FFL should be getting mine this week but why not hunt with a suitable caliber?

The 995 is one heck of a lot of fun. Cheap to own, cheap to shoot, and after 300 rounds there hasn't been one problem with mine. PBE, (pull, bang, eject), every time.

These are accurate firearms out to 100 yards or more, so at 30 yards you should be able to shoot the legs off a deer tick. I don't remember what HP says about +P ammo, but 115 gr cjhp should do the job at close range. On another site there was a post about the mercy killing of a large doe that had been entangled in barbed fence wire, the shooter backed out to 25-30 yards and quickly ended it's misery with one shot from his 995.

The original ghost sights were fine on my 995, but due to my farsightedness I replaced them with a contoured 1.5-4x20 scope off an old Marlin 336. Many say that the hologram reflex sights are an excellent sight for the 995 as well, especially for moving targets.

IMO, the 995 is the most practical "Joe Sixpack" small arms urban tactical weapon available. They make for a super HD gun. I carry a Taurus 9mm, having the same caliber ammo makes sense.

I agree that taking the mag base off and installing a block will do the trick. Haven't heard of any 5 rd clips. Would like to hear how you do with your hunting.

I agree a well placed shot from a 9mm will kill a deer with 1 shot and if you happen to be out with a 9mm and need to use it that's fine. I don't agree that it is a very responsible thing to use if you have access to a 12 gauge, 30-30, .308 or whatever proper deer caliber, maybe that's just me and how I was taught to hunt. Don't some states have a minimum caliber to hunt deer?

On the plugged mag, I'm in NY state and I spoke to a game warden about hunting with my M1A with a 10 round mag plugged to 5. He said that was not legal and to buy a 5 rounder (you can plug a shotgun though obviously). I know is some states it is legal though so you may want to check.

I personally would not hunt deer with a 9mm, unless that's all I had and it was a eat-or-starve situation. I've seen too many animals that escaped the initial kill, but suffered a long slow death from their injuries.:(

When in doubt, always check first, but if mio absolutely could not modify a 10 rd mag to only accept 5 then he's screwed. There would not be enough demand for anyone to manufacture a completely new 5rd mag solely for hunting with a 9mm 995. I'll bet that he'd have no problem using a 10rd mag 'permanently' modified from the bottom up to only accept 5 rds as opposed to a wooden or plastic plug temporarally inserted from the top down.

Yeah your probably going to have to mod yourself. I've never seen a 5 rd mag for that carbine.

Yes a permanent mod would be legal I'd bet. For example SAI sells a 10 round M1A mag that can only be loaded to 5 rounds that is leagal to hunt with here.

permanently modified is legal here as is any centerfire rifle (far as i know this even means .22 hornet) and 9mm pistols are even legal to hunt with since the law states it must have a .35 diameter bullet but nothing more.

so this is completly legal here.
