New S&W 3" 64?

I would love to find a 3" model 65 to add to my collection someday, as I'm certain many of us would, but they seem to be really difficult to find. It would also have to be in excellent condition. Since this would be a gun that I'd be quite content to shoot .38's out of, should I consider the 3" model 64 (.38+P) that is shown on the S&W website? I don't like the internal lock but that's for another discussion. Best to all, Mike

While I'd prefer an M65 myself, I sure wouldn't turn up my nose at a 3" RB M64. It will safely handle the hottest .38 Spl +P loads, which don't give up too much to the low end .357s.
If you feel you MUST go with a brand-new one, by all means order the 65. If you can stand the wait, shop the gun shows and smaller gun shops. A lot of police trade-in M64s have hit the market lately, at reasonable prices. And who knows, you just might run across a 65 in your travels.
Best of luck to you, and let us know of your success. ;)

If you are considering buying new anyway have you talked to your dealer about ordering a S&W 65LS?
