Was not sure whether to post this here or in Shotguns. I just found a Mossberg Model 42TR Smoothbore. It's a bolt-action rifle that fires .22lr shotshells from what looks like a standard Mossberg 7-round magazine. I'll have to go home and check my Mossberg book but this looks like an interesting and relatively unknown rifle. I have a chance at it if the dealer does not take it. I also plan on emailing Cheryl Havlin to see what she can tell me about it.

Anyone here ever have one or know anything about them? The guy selling it lives out in the country and was using it on grasshoppers.

I think Marlin also makes a similar rimfire smoothbore. IIRC, it is supposedly used for short-range pest control.

It's probably built to shoot .22lr shotshells or "birdshot". Works fairly well on chipmunks and smaller rodents up close.

The dealer bought it for $100 and sold it very shortly for $350.
