These look to be 2 new types of Hawken with 1 in 20" twists and 32 inch barrels.

They're talking long conical bullets for guns like that. Think Whitworth or Kerr.

A shooter could sure use a shoulder pad for protection from the curved buttplate if shooting heavy bullets though.

I thought they shot those guns off the arm and not off the shoulder like we do.

I haven't shot in any long range matches, but fineredmist showed me how he holds his .45-70 BPCR & other various High Walls for long range bench rest shooting, to protect the arm/shoulder and to help control any of the barrel torque caused by the long, heavy bullets rotating through the rifling at very high velocity.
And shooting off of the arm may not be desirable or even possible in every shooting position with a Creedmore sight which requires proper alignment with the eye.
I use the bench position pictured below for shooting hard recoiling muzzle loaders, .303, 7.62X54R and any other light weight rifle that might sock my unpadded shoulder.
Maybe you have big enough biceps for recoil protection there 4v50 Gary, but I sure don't! :D
