Got a smokin deal on one the other day. Saiga high cap magazines are really expensive and I have 'heard' they are not real reliable. I have been buying AK mags for my SKS M and it makes sense to convert the Saiga to take them too.

for parts:

dinzagarms.com

for info: the saiga forums over at saiga-12.com

there's a few nifty things you'll need to do in order to comply with the ATF import/sporting laws, and of course learning how and what to do the conversion, as well as learning what you can add on if you choose to do more than the basic conversion.

Either way, you'll be getting the best for-the-money AK out there in terms of 'AK accuracy' and quality.

I give a big +1 to Dinzag. You can literally get everything you need to convert your Saiga. It's also a top-notch operation the guy has.

The surefires are expensive but reliable. The pro mags are cheap but have questionable reliability. You are right that the most sensical thing is to convert and use standard AK mags.

+1 on dinzag and the saiga forums.

Saiga high cap magazines are really expensive and I have 'heard' they are not real reliable. You are batting .500 here.

Genuine Russian Saiga 30 rounders are expensive to get here.

Their reliability is 100%

As has been mentioned, Master Molder and Surefire US made polymer mags are reliable and don't require a bullet guide. Stay away from Pro-Mag.

Cheapest way is to add a bullet guide and use milsurp mags.

Oh, and nalioth is the resident AK/Saiga expert. If you say so.
