Price check on NEW Ruger M77 358win

Local store has on consignment a new, never fired, with box (don't care about the box) Ruger M-77 tang safety, in .358win. Ser # is 73-XXXXX (five digits after the dash).
They are asking $600 but think the owner will come down "a little".
I do want a 358 win but was planning on having one built on my MRC action.
What's it really worth?

SNATCH IT UP!!! Ruger collectors love these. It's 'whatever the market will bear' and so long as it's as NIB, it's a jewel.

You know, there aren't that many gun stores in his state. Anybody wanna check them all?

Grab it. Now.
Remember, Ruger rifles were almost all purchased to USE, and many have been used HARD. (I oughta post photos of my old 77R .30'06 and 77S .257. Neither abused, but both used extensively.)
Any older model 77, unfired-in-the-box, is valuable to the collectors. And, really, the .358 Win was one of the scarcer calibers.
I think it very possible that, if you could afford to buy it and campaign it around a couple of shows, you could make enough to finance your custom .358.
Conversely, if it is in a configuration which suits you, the 77 is a very good hunting rifle right outa the box. I trust you're not building one for thousand yard benchrest matches, are you?
Either way, nice find, Elkslayer.

Thanks, Johnny.
I had the rifle put on "hold" for me till I get a could get a few comments from more knowledgable folks like you.
I really didn't know what it was worth, to me it seemed kind of high when any old short action can get re-barreled to that cartridge and you will have about the same money in it.
They'll hold it for me for a couple of days till I can gather more imput like yours. I'm really not into "collecting" and don't want to start a "one gun collection". Much rather have someting I can shoot and not feel like I and just fired a round out of the "last unfired M77 358win".
Anyway they did come down a little.

I have about four "safe queens," guns which are just too valuable unfired to take out and enjoy. I am NOT a collector, though, and ALMOST everything I own is for shooting.
Here's hoping you are able to reach a decision that will be right for YOU.
Best,
Johnny
