Does anyone know of any bushing compensators that will work on the Colt Combat Commander .45 ACP? This particular model has a 4" barrel. All the ones I've found so far have been for the Government models.

The .45 ACP cartridge operates at such a low pressure it really won't make a comp work, at least not so you would notice. Bushing comps are ineffective because they have no expansion chamber. Folks that run comps on a .45 mostly do it for looks. Some people will actually laugh when they see one. I would spend the money on ammo and magazines.

Mike I have never came across any for Commanders. Due to the added length I would doubt there would be much call for the item.

We carry muzzlebrakes for Govt. models as well.

if you run a standard recoil system the Wichata comp should work for a commander iirc it did but really slowed the slide . It likely would not work with any kind of full length guide rod , and in fact i dont know if its even made anymore .

Well, you can solve the problem of the compensator not working at low .45ACP pressures with this -

.460 Rowland conversion kit (http://www.clarkcustomguns.com/rowland.htm)

They have one to fit Commanders, provided they aren't alloy frame. The folks at Clark Custom also admit that this thing is going to cause accelerated wear on your 1911, even with the proper spring and the compensator.

Neat, though. :)

I was looking for an inexpensive upgrade for my father's old 1911. I think I may just get him some new grips in this case.

He has a fairly unusual 1911, a Colt Combat Commander with a polished stainless steel finish. I've only managed to ever find one like it for sale. Lots of black ones, a few nickel ones, very few stainless ones, and polished stainless is rarer still.

Nice new grips is a good idea.
