Finally Finished my M1A

December 1, 2008, 10:38 PM
Well I finally got it the way I want it for now. It's an SAI Loaded with a Bushnell Elite 4200 3-9x40 scope. The rifle is in a USGI synthetic stock for now while I refinish the Boyds that it came in. Here is some late night gun porn (sorry for the low quality but its the best I can do for now):

Here is my .22 I finally got back from my stepfather and cleaned up after years of neglect:

Like the M1A. Good choice in mount and optics for it. Let us know if it shoots.

Hell yes... Nice rifle

Thanks, yeah 2 more weeks left in the semester then I will take it out and shoot it up with the optics. It shoots nice groups with the irons at 100 yards but I'm going to hunt with it so need a scope. The mount is an SEI Weaver mount I got it used for $80 bucks but even new at $125 they are the best deal going on steel M14 mounts.

SO Lipadj46, nice pics, what kind of MOA are u getting at 100 yards with match ammo? Did u glass bed the USGI synthetic stock yourself? Does it have a USGI DMR chromed barrel?

I did not measure the 2 times I was out with it. But at around 100 yards (down at ours makeshift range) I was grouping OK with the irons, was not shooting from a bench or anything and was probably getting groups of around 8 inches give or take a few. That was with South African M80 ball ammo and I'm sure the limitation was not in the rifle but the shooter. It has the heavier match barrel from SAI but I'm not sure if they are chrome lining them I don't think so. The USGI fiberglass stock is no good for glass bedding with out reinforcement and I don't really want to get into bedding it. If I did I would just buy one of the new stock systems with the "instant" metal bedding. I'm still getting back into the swing of things so hopefully I will see improvement.

That looks great, good choice on the optics set up. That gi stock can look a lot better with a coupla of cans of krylon.

Yeah after I get the Walnut stock finished I am going to play around with painting the stock. Figure I can always strip it or paint over it.
