I recently acquired an old Ruger No.1 rifle, evidently made before 1966 (it has a four digit serial no. below 8000) and I'm curious about the differences between the various models internally. Does anyone know where I can get the dis-assembly instructions and an exploded parts drawing for this rifle, the parts list shown a lot of little pieces and parts and I'm reluctant to tear into it without some hints about where to start.

The last time I checked, you could download the manual for the Ruger #1 from Ruger's web site. There are instructions for disassembly as far as removing the hammer and trigger. I don't think it covers driving out every last pin. The exploded diagram is also included, and it helps, a little.

AFAIK, Ruger changed the trigger mechanism on later Ruger #1's, driven by the same fear that made them make the M77 trigger "lawyer-proof". The early triggers were actually adjustable.

Thanks for the info, dmazur, I'll try the Ruger site, and yes, this rifle appears to have an adjustable trigger.

I have not worked on many of those rifles, but I strongly recommend you not "tear into it" unless you know what you are doing and there is a good reason, like replacing a broken part.

Some gun owners just have an "itch" to take their guns apart down to the tiniest part. Some gun owners then pay a lot of money to have someone else put the guns back together and replace all the parts the owner lost or broke in the process.
