Greetings!

I like my Bulgarian Makarov (9x18) for a CCW gun, but what is the best way to carry it, given that the decock safety is non-ambidextrous?

- Round in the chamber, safety off, hammer down (easy to draw and fire- what about AD threat from dropped weapon?)

- Round in the chamber, safety on, hammer down (requires odd thumb action, but still workable)

- No round in chamber, safety off, hammer down (requires two handed operation, results in weapon being in "cocked" condition)

Thanks for your input!

Hunter

With the safety off is just like any DA revolver without a safety. Carry safety off, round in the chamber, hammer down.

Yup. The makarov has a trigger activated firing pin block. The hammer cannot hit the firing pin unless the trigger is pulled all the way back. Might I suggest a INW holster as well?

For a lefty? What Pilot said. I use the safety/decocker to bring the hammer down, then back down to off. But, you know that already.

Makarovnik, all Makarov pistols are manufactured without firing pin block... There is only a non captive half cock notch on the hammer.

However they made it and whatever they call it, a Makarov's hammer doesn't come in contact with the firing pin unless the trigger is pulled. Look at the gun with the safety off and notice where the hammer rests. Notice that you can't move it forward any. Then, pull the trigger and see where it rests. You'll see what I mean.

Lefty here too. I carry chamber loaded, safety/decocker off.
