I have recently acquired the pictured Smith "lemon squeezer", what can you tell me about it? It's chambered in .38 S&W (short), nickel finish.

Thanks for your comments.

In the absence of a serial number and larger pictures, I cannot make out enough details to show even the little I know about these.

It is probably a Second Model made between 1887 and 1890 but might be a Third.

I cannot tell if the trigger guard is plated (redo) or blue (correct.)

If that is the S&W box, it adds a lot of interest and value.

Serial number 16880.

That serial number would make it a .38 Safety Hammerless, Second Model, with 37,350 made from 1887-1890.

Value depends on condition and the pictures are too small and have too much reflection to be of use in determining that.

Thanks Jim,

I believe it has been refinished because the trigger and ejector star are the same chrome/nickel as the frame. I think the factory finish for these parts should have been blue. It has 1 noticeable pit in the bore. Otherwise good. I'm sure it's collector value is hurt by this, but certainly not bad for 118+ years old. Mechanically perfect, interesting piece:).
