I have a Remington 700 ADL my wife bought me for an anniversary present several years ago (I know, I am a very lucky guy), actually she took me to the gun store(s) and let me pick the one I wanted. Anyhow I digress, my rifle has a Laminated Stock and Recessed Muzzle Crown. My question of the great collective knowledge here on THR, is a Recess Muzzle Crown normal on a 700 ADL? I know when I picked the gun I thought it would be more for the laminated stock, it wasn't. I was cleaning my rifle tonight and I noticed the recessed crown, I am sure I have noticed this before, but for some reason it struck me as unusual on a 700 ADL. I could see it on a higher grade gun, but the ADL even lacks a hinged magazine floor plate. So did I get some sort of special edition that had the laminated stock and recessed crown, or were these standard for an ADL?

My wife must have bought this gun for me in 2002, I know Remington discontinued the ADL in 2004. I was looking at their website, but couldn't find any the info I needed. I am sure it is there somewhere, but I couldn't find it.

Anyhow thanks in advance! THR is a really great place, so much knowledge and so many people who love to help.

Thanks
JohnnyOrygun.

As far as I know recessed muzzles are standard on all rifles. I know all of mine are, including a Remington ADL from 1974. On most rifles the end of the barrel is rounded slightly and the recess is not as obvious. On newer production Remingtons they are squaring off the recess and it leaves an obvous step down.

All ADLs lack hinged floor plate.
You can replace the stock and get a new trigger gaurd with the hinged plate.

Thanks all for your help, I was just curious, so I had to ask. I really like my 700, it's much more accurate then I am. MT GUNNY, I saw on Cabelas that they have the replacement trigger guard that allows you to add a hinged floor plate to the ADL, one of these days I might have to get it. I would really like to have a hinged floor plate, its a nuisance having to cycle the bolt to unload. One of the reviews on Cabelas indicated that they used the original stock and modified it to accept the hinged plate/trigger guard, just took a little woodworking skills. I have "little" woodworking skills, emphasis on "little" :D

BTW, Kalispell is a great place, I spent a summer there and loved it. Fishing on the Flathead was a lot of fun, those Lake Trout put up a nice fight and pretty tasty too.

Anyhow, Thanks everyone, gotta love the THR!
