What would this cost. Any Idea? I know it would be more then value of the rifle.

Just curious, what are you hoping to achieve with this project?

Do you just have a bad barrel that you want to replace? With the low cost of
the rifles, much cheaper to buy another.

If you're thinking of another caliber then yes, they can be rebarreled as any threaded action can be. Did you plan on staying with the original cartridge? What you have to be aware of is the fairly large bolt face size(the 7.62x54R is .567 dia.) if you are wanting a different caliber. There are a couple different rounds based on the original case, but are pretty rare.
Is this what you're thinking?
You cannot even try to justify the costs involved if that's what you want.

used good barrel $35
rebarreling by smith, $150-200

Result. Same quality as hand picking a $70 rifle.

I don't know who would make a heavy barrel for an MN action.

Can be done, as stated above you run the risk of putting a $100 saddle on a $5 mule.
This wisdom never stopped me ether.

I have consider ether a 577/450, 45/70 or a 348 Winchester......

Spend till it hurts then get out the visa....

there are a few people in the sporterizing section at surplus rifle forum (http://www.surplusrifleforum.com/viewforum.php?f=82) that have done it & are doing it now. lothar walther will make barrels for them in the original 7.62x54 & pacific tool & die has reamers for 6.3x53 & 9.3x53r finnish. i'm considering doing a mosin takedown rifle in 6.3 & 9.3x53r. i have a heavy barrel mosin project in the works right now that will be chambered in 7mmx54r

I am sure ER Shaw could make you a barrel for it. I personally think it is putting lipstick on a pig but to each his own.

Somewhere on one of the many forums I frequent there's a member who rebarreled his Mosin to 500S&W magnum. I'm sure it's a single shot affair but cool none the less

Here's a pretty good thumper with just a barrel change. It's 7.62x54R necked to .375.
