Just trying to figure out what the 45 magnum ammo is used in.Just found a few boxes at a good deal in a pawn shop.Just not sure what there used in.I really don't think it is the same as 45 long colt.It seemed 12.00 a box was good.buy.Thanks for all helpful information.

There is no such thing as ".45 Magnum". There is .45 Colt, with a rimmed case for revolvers, and there is .45 ACP, for the semi automatics. The Colt ammo is about twice as long; however, there is no such thing as "long Colt" either.

The "Magnum" version of the Colt .45 is a tad longer and called the .454 Casull, and I think the .460 Smith and Wesson is the same, but slightly longer than .454 Casull.

Introduced in 1979, the .45 Winchester Magnum is an excellent cartridge, but it was doomed form the start by the on again, off again availability of the Wildey autoloader.

I've got a 14" .45 Win Mag barrel for my contender. I used it mostly for silhouettes.

I appreciate all the information about the Winchester 45 magnum ammo.I knew there was such a round,I had three boxes in my hand looking at them.I wonder if I should buy them? probably not 12.00 a box but 15.00 or lessw/tax.box of 20 each.

Yes indeed there is a 45 Win Mag, I have a LAR Grizzly chambered in it.

I also have a custom Super Redhawk 454 Casull that will shoot 454 Casull's, 45 Colts, 45 Win Mags in a moon clip and 45 ACP's in a moon clip. The cylinder was modified to accept moon clips.

The 45 Win Mag is comparable to the 44 Mag as far as power.

$12.00 a box is a very good price, I would pick them up if it was me.

BigBlock, the 454 Casull and S&W 460 Mag are not the same. Totally different cartridges. The 460 Mag holds about 10 more gr. of powder.

Now the S&W 460 Mag will shoot 45 Colts, 454 Casull's and S&W 460 Mag.

As for the 45 Long Colt, the 45 Colt was given that name, so it would not be confused with the .45 Schofield or .45 Smith & Wesson.
So when one says 45 Long Colt, they are referring to the 45 Colt.
