Presently I own several 1911's (45acp) and one Taurus 9mm, and looking for a S&W40. I've found a good looking Beretta Cougar in 40. I seem to remember that the Cougar was originally a 380 and 9mm. Can any of you tell me if the Cougar frame is a good subject for the S&W40? It's a really beautiful little "pocket gun." I already own a Beretta 9mm--an older military/police model, a collectors item which stays in the safe. I have a very healthy respect for Beretta. Will someone give me an opinion on the Cougar as a 40?

The modern Beretta Cougar came in 9mm, 357Sig, .40S&W, and .45ACP, there was never a .380. It is a great gun , very well made and should handle many thousands of rounds of .40 without any problems. I don't consider it a pocket gun, though, especially the full framed model. It's a pretty stout hunk of gun. I carry a 9mm Mini Cougar on duty and that's way too big and heavy for pocket carry, even with the short grip frame.

EDIT TO ADD: Beretta did make a Cougar .380 back in the '40's-'50's but that was a completely different gun.

Hey WC145! Thanks for the info and opinion. I was looking at the Cougar as a backup, auxilliary, or whatever else you might call it. I found a used one in one of my favorite local gun shops. Good price on it too. I just might take the dive!
