Lever Wraps

Months ago (a year?) there was a discussion here about rawhide wraps for levers. Several were discussed and pictures posted and one really stood out as I recall. But I can't find it in search. I want it for an 1894 Marlin - anyone remember or have a wrap you really like?

I have one from CowtownKaty. They sell on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/RIFLE-LEATHER-LEVER-WRAP-SAND-BEIGE-PADDED-SASS-CAS_W0QQitemZ370115654014QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116

I've been real happy with mine. I decided to get one with fringe just because I could. :D

It's nothing like the picture in the link above (and probably not what you are interested in), but I just wrapped mine in leather lacing. Then I soaked it in Corrosion X so the lever wouldn't rust.

I have since found this one which looks great for $9 shipped.

Apparently the cowboy action shooters want the wrap to take up excess space inside the lever so the fingers don't have to move much before making contact. I'm going to order one and will report back.

Mine is similar to Cocked & Locked.

All that is needed is a long piece of leather I included a "How Too" when I did my Guide Gun build.

I went looking for one of these myself, but not being a CAS shooter I didn't want the fringe or anything.

Best solution I saw was someone wrapped their 39A lever with parachute chord. Keeps it comfortable without the corrosion worries.

Just a quick warning. Many types of leather are tanned using salts which will rust/corrode any metal they are in contact with. Make sure you use a vegetable-tanned leather which won't cause that sort of problem.

You can often find vegetable-tanned leather strips suitable for lever wraps in the bird section of pet stores since parrots like to chew on things and the chrome&salt tanned leathers are toxic to birds when they chew on them.

Hey Salvo...that's a good looking Guide Gun...thanks for the link. When deer season ends on Jan. 1st, I'll probably attempt to the wood down and get rid of the checkering on my GG.

Noticed you have 1976 Shovel...cool, I've got a 1975 FLH Shovelhead.

Thanks guys, the chopped guide gun is one of my favorite rifles to shoot. It kicks hard off the bench but field positions you hardly notice it.
I'm not sure what type of leather I used, guess I better check for any rust under it. Rust is very seldom seen here in in the Mojave desert though.

I just made mine from a piece of leather and some lacing. Got it from Tandy leather from their scrap pile for a dollar, cut to size, punched some holes and put it on my 1873 Uberti. Works great.

Is rust under the wrap a common concern?

Got a Marlin 1894c in .357 myself
.. and a 76 FLH... hmmmm .. a pattern?
