Night vision equipment

I've been assigned the task of finding a good set of night vision goggles or night vision scope for the owner of my company.
He is going to Africa soon and he needs something to watch animals at night.
He's not a hunter so I'm sure this is a photo trip.
Any ideas?

You're going to want some IR illumination as well.

Gen 3 night vision gear is in the 3.5k-7k range depending on what you want.

How much does he want to spend?

Gen3 nightvision also cannot be legally exported without special permission from the government. I'm not sure which agency is in charge of it, but Gen3 is export-restricted.

I'm not an attorney, but carrying night vision equipment overseas as part of your personal travel gear doesn't count as "export." It's not the same thing as retail (or wholesale) transfer of property to outside the US. I rather doubt the NVE would attract more attention than safari gear (rifles) that the guys with big bucks take to Africa. Check local laws on your end and for the country where he's going just to make sure there's no ugly surprises though.

Yeah, a price range would help beings NV prices vary greatly.

You still need permission to take it out of the country. That's the way the law works with Gen3 nightvision. It's considered a weapon that only the US has the capability to produce for whatever reason, so despite allowing civilians to own it they still don't want too many copies of it floating around outside the U.S.
